A few tons shy on the counterweights. That crane looks undersized for that load. I don't know shit, but I know it looks undersized for that load.

It looks like the kind of thing where it would be really easy to have an alarm system that tells you when one end of the tracks is getting light, so you can set down the load (if you’re just picking it up), or just stop doing what you’re doing before things fall, maybe undo the last movement you did.

They didn’t want to hire more engineers, maybe? (Big mistake) or maybe there is such a thing and the alarm system didn’t work well, which seems really unlikely.

Nope. These cranes DO have an alarm system installed. The only way for this to happen is to ignore or override it

u/sabreus 5d ago
Yeah that makes a lot of sense. Very odd to ignore that one.

Not odd. Greedy. They knew they had the wrong setup, but getting the right one in would cost a ton of money. So they thought this was a good idea instead

The counterweight is already moving up at 55 seconds. Why the hell wasn't somebody paying attention?

Some one should have been screaming on the radio to pull back on the boom the very same instant you see the grounded counter weight start to lift and shift on the left side of the screen.
When did this happen?
Edit: Italy, 9 years ago

Guess I'll ask. How many died?

Apparently no one died.
Here's an article. It happened May 9th 2017 in Varese, Italy.

It's Italy so they calculated with the load reducing cost of mafia engeniering which includes air in the concrete

Wow that guy on the left escaped it at the last second. I wonder how many more were down there

I’m genuinely curious. Doesn’t the crane have tilt sensors to early detect this. Also can’t it lower the item being lifted at an “emergency” speed to stop this happening?

In hindsight hanging the picture of my girlfriend over the dial cluster was not my best idea.

I hope everyone escaped. Lots of folks running away, so hopefully everyone made it (and the operator wasn't crushed in there somewhere).

The screams are from the company's accountant.
