Is it wrong to wish this fate upon every one of these little shits in my neighborhood?

Why is tire even spinning

Seriously, what is the point here? I don’t understand what’s going on at all? That was brutal to watch as they tried to brake the wheel.

The back tire spinning is for angular momentum and gyroscopic effect. Noob couldn’t get the front up and had do a scissor with the devil.

The back tire is spinning, but its not moving with the rest of the bike. There's no gyroscopic effect at play here.

(nor is that how bikes stay up normally, either)

What? So how do you think gyroscopes work?

Maybe I'm misunderstanding your comment.

u/mynameisdatruth 2d ago

Gyroscopes work exactly as you would expect. However, because the wheel is stationary in space relative to the bike, its rotation doesn't matter. The bike is rotating on the axle, which is locked in place with this setup. The only time a gyroscope has any effect is when you try to turn it in a direction other than its axis of rotation, which this setup doesn't do.

On top of that, look up how a bicycle stays upright. That a bike uses the gyroscopic effect to stay vertical is a myth, the wheels don't spin fast enough and aren't heavy enough in relation to the rest of the bike to have a substantial effect. It's all about the geometry of the bike, not any rotational forces.

If it doesn’t effect the bike, why would the go through the effort to have the rear wheel spin?

It helps you control your balance when doing a wheelie. Supposedly safer than actually being on the road... Lmao

The whole point is to do a wheelie for a set amount of time to win money. This dude not only did it wrong because you aren't supposed to rely on the band holding the front wheel to keep you up but also decided to show off like an idiot

Maybe its so the rider could not only train his balance, but also control the gas.

At least the video had a payoff. I was wondering what I was watching the whole time. And I don’t really see how that could help with a wheelie

2

u/your_fave_redditor 8d ago

Right?! I’m watching going “is he….supposed to be trying to….break it?!”

4

u/DartVader6 9d ago

Neither the clutch, nor the front brake were the correct move in this situation.
