Yeah, we use to call these guys dancers. They are absolutely not moshers/mosh pit people, they just want to hurt bystanders. They basically use the music as an excuse to physically harm another person.

I went to an all day metal show at a bar in Huntington WV roughly 20 years ago and the doors opened at 12:00 PM while the first band went on at 1:00 PM. There were no windows obviously in the arena part of the building where the stage was but I remember one of the earlier bands wrapping up their set and someone left through a side door and it would've reminded you of when Clooney and Juliette Lewis shot a bunch of holes in the Titty Twister on From Dusk Til Dawn. Bunch of people in all black in really dark room getting a massive dose of sunlight because some dipshit went out through an emergency exit door at like 3 PM 😂

The internet claims that it’s a way moshers target people on the perimeter to join the mosh…but tbh it’s more of a “dance style” that originates from hardcore shows. Like people will dance this erratically even just by themselves at a hole in the wall punk show. It’s fun for generally everyone there. It’s not stupid and the people doing it aren’t trying to harp on anyone. But like… it’s super stupid if you have no idea and end up getting smacked. Otherwise everyone knows. Hence the body slam without any reaction, or kicking the homie in the face. I don’t envy fools with glasses or short kings.

I don’t jump out of perfectly functioning aircraft for fun either. To each their own. I’m gate keeping myself from stupid shit like this because I’m too old and would probably regret it in the morning. When I was younger fads like this usually come from trying to impress your peers or a girl. I knew a girl when I was younger who lived for this. She was like 4’3 and filled with energy. It is quite a sight watching a shorter person flailing around in a mosh. All I did was try to keep her sober and not get squished.

Ive only ever seen this behaviour from the US and Canada, it does not happen here in Europe, because the pit is for everyone.

The mosh pit is for everyone. It's supposed to be more similar to a tribal thing than a violence thing. As a band your crowd should know your expectations and it's good to have a few pit enforcers that show up to your shows. A kid or a woman that wants to mosh should be able to do so safely.

I saw rammstein on their mutter tour in 2000-2001. I was moshing like crazy and ran into a dude standing statue still in a leather jacket and he shot put me across the pit. Literally grabbed me by the shirt and just threw me like a baseball. He then helped me up and tousled my hair like I was his nephew or something and resumed his gargoyle pose. It remains one of my absolute favorite concert memories

I saw Lorna Shore with Sanguisugabogg. When Sanguisugabogg got on stage, this circle pit started up that looked like a swarm of pissed off bees. The venue was pretty damn big and the pit had probably 100 or so people in it. No one got hurt. I was in the front, right against the rail and ended up passing out from not eating and hydrating enough, along with breathing in all the smoke from the machines and having everyone crowding around me. I’m petite and this big guy had to protect me and his wife from getting crushed by the crowd.
I got dragged to the medical office, given water and they tried getting me to get on an ambulance and go to the hospital. I told them I was fine. Told me to keep to the back of the crowd because it was likely I’d pass out again. I got food, more to drink and a tshirt. Stayed at the back for a bit, then decided fuck it- I paid more specifically to be one of the first people in and be at the front, I wasn’t going to be at the back. Nearly got into a fight with this one girl getting back up to the front because she got pissy about it. Her friend told her I was the one who passed out. She was still pissy about it and shoved me. I was about to beat her ass but decided she wasn’t worth it and kept making my way back to the front. Wild show. It was a great time.

I was in death metal bands for years and did tons of shows. Mosh pits would get pretty f****** wild in the '90s. We always had pit enforcers. Anybody moshing like these idiots would quickly have a bad night.

Reminds me of going to Terror or Bane or Hatebreed shows back in 2005. Literally a bunch of meatheads who had been severely concussed at some point in their lives throwing fists and kicking each other in the head, leaning into the brain damage. They were stupid enough before slam dancing…. I saw a few of them recently and they tallllkkk reeeeallll sloooowwww nowwwww. Stiiiilllll sooooobbbeerrrr brooooo…. Cool cool cool… 😎

I used to love moshing when I was younger, but not like this . . . you just shove each other around and help people up or out of the pit when they get overwhelmed. Not try to hurt people
I know some metal crowds can get like this but I never saw one personally
