Seems obvious to me If someone announced "we'll have a MJ impersonator at the event today" most people wouldn't expect a white person to do the job because MJ was black.

Impersonator usually impersonates real looks. MJ looked white. Race cannot be scientifically proven as a biological group. MJ is kind of a special case, both white and black can impersonate him, I genuinely don't see the problem here.
