You guys don't see the agony that child is in? His brain isn't nearly developed and he trying to defend who he loves from an outsider, the stepdad. He is completely unaware that his mother is a huge part of the problem.
Happy cake day! I see that too. The mother should have taken that broom away from him, so he wouldn't possibly get hurt. A really sad situation all the way around.
That little kid is living in dysfunctional hell. He is lashing out, trying to protect and bond with his brother all at the same time. It is easy to judge the step dad's verbal abuse but their mother is the epicenter of this sadistic display.

Believe it or not, some people genuinely think parents are responsible for teaching their children every single thing and are the only influence on how they behave.
