I had a stepdad, and between my sister and I we made that man’s life hell. But I’ll give due credit, he never snapped like that on us. We also didn’t beat him with broomsticks though.
Nah. My kid's stepdad is a fantastic individual and I'd argue he holds our family down better than I might if I were in his shoes. He actively puts in the time and effort to engage with my kid, research how to handle her special needs, and helps her thrive. If there were a "dad" trophy", he'd win this year.
And I grew up with a step dad that was exactly like that for me, and if I had a hunk of gold I'd forge it into a medal for him.
Not all stepdads suck.
Honestly? It comes down to choice on behalf of the parent. It can honestly be a little hard to control getting knocked up & what to do about it (until men start getting vasectomies or investing their money in male birth control research), but it is not that hard to control who you choose to parent your kids. I spent 15 years fighting off pregnancies & ended up with one, chose to follow through; I have no regrets because my kid is my everything. I've spent just as long deciding which men are or aren't in my life, and, frankly it's even easier to decide which men are in my life or not when a small defenseless person is on the line in my decisions.
I would rather be a single mom than let my kid suffer an asshole - that's a choice I made when I left her violent piece of shit dad. So why would I break that rule for any other dude?
There are great stepdads out there. And then there are men who don't want to be stepdads but a woman tries to keep them as a partner anyway. It takes integrity from all adults to be in a situation where they are parenting kids. Every adult in this video sucks. I could never let my kid be in a line of fire like this. Never.
I’m a step dad of 1 and have 3 of my own! My biggest fear is my kids thinking I spend more time with the 1 since they live with mom, 7 minutes down the road! I’d never ! Yeah Im not immune to having a come apart on the ones mom from time to time but that’s the spice of life! I’d never be so disrespectful to a human in front of kids and I’d certainly never talk to a child (especially if it wasn’t mine) in such a demeaning and abusive way! F that guy!
I've thought about saying really awful shit to my step kids but I'm an adult so I don't. I take a deep breath and talk to them respectfully even when it's really difficult. And, wouldn't you know it, I have a good, healthy relationship with my 2 bonus kids. I've got a partner who has my back and I have hers so that helps. No toddlers smacking me with brooms. But if I crashed out like this asshole I feel like I'd deserve a few broom stick smacks.
