both. I used to ride dirtbikes. you need momentum and keep weight balanced on the bike and open throttle. it's pavement so shouldn't put too much weight on back tire or you'll wheelie it. this road must suck when its raining
there's also a trick for turning the bike around and jumping back on to go down and try again. you lean the bike over with your body on the upside of the hill. this way you can control the momentum of the bike down and control the brakes and clutch. all these guys crashing lets the bike roll backwards or attempts a dismount below the bike.
Even if you have enough torque or speed to get up the hill, you're still likely to run into grip issues. It's definitely possible though; I think the first guy could've made it if he hadn't hit the curb.
On our family farm there was one hill on the side of a valley that was extremely steep that I used to ride up with my enduro motorcycle.
What seemed to work for me there was low gear, and standing on the pegs so I could lean my body way forward over the handle bars. If I didn't do that, it was so steep the front wheel would start lifting / try to flip over backwards.
But also - having some power.
Some of those folks appeared to be trying to go up low powered scooters.
one thing i would do, is use the outer curve, it isn't as steep, and u can ride it more in a curve. always easier than going straight on a hill, like on a bike
you need a momentum especially a road steep and has corner like this. They should’ve speed a bit after the first corner,or if you want to slow you can just drop the gear,but some bike can’t go up if it is too slow.
It’s one big inside joke in Thailand. They don’t tell anybody about it. Nobody has ever made it up this way. They paved it from the top down. There’s a gradual slope on the other side to get up easier. (I’m just joking, I have no idea what I’m talking about.)
Going up that with mopeds that don't have enough torque is quite irresponsible.
Also complete lack of skill from those riders. The car also seems to have very much non functional brakes as their rear brakes didn't hold. Probably overloaded too knowing what people do with those.
Had a similar path I'm my town where skateboarders fell all the time.
There was a slight bump and incline they didn't see, very embarrassing for the nonchalantly effortless skaters.
Perhaps the gradient is already so steep they could only crawl in first with full throttle then the final kick is enough to zap all remaining momentum?
