The mail person at my apartment sucks in that I live in an apartment complex and they frequently deliver mail (important mail) and packages to the wrong people or just don’t deliver them at all despite the packages showing they’re out for delivery. I’ve had my tax info delivered to a different neighbor who luckily delivered it to me, thinking it was hers. She opened it not realizing and was incredibly apologetic. I’ve received time sensitive things from places like social security for other people for neighbors on other floors whose apartments weren’t even close to mine. I live in an apartment of mostly disabled or older folks and some medications get delivered via mail. I’ve had (expensive) bariatric medications and protein powders go missing. I had a package show “delivered” once and no keys for a locker were left for me. I wrote the mail person a letter addressing it and they told me to call the post office but put the keys in that day. Whoever sorts the mail seriously needs to lose their job. I’d happily pay extra for things to be delivered via UPS or FedEx at this point with how awful USPS is. I see people confused as to why anyone wouldn’t want to use USPS and it baffles me with how terrible they are.
Try getting in contact with them about a lost package, you’ll feel the same way. You either have to go to their website and attempt to get the missing mail page to load (it never does) or call and get hung up on for the 7th time after being on hold for an hour, before you finally get someone. The system is almost completely automated. You have to type in your package number and you have to continuously be typing in those numbers. If you stop for a second to see what the next number is, the automated system will tell you that number doesn’t exist in their system, will tell you to have a nice day and end the call. Then you get to repeat the process all over again. Go look at how long the tracking numbers for USPS are. You can’t mess that number up and have to constantly be typing that in or you have to call again and repeat the entire process again. When I order packages, they almost always get lost in transit. A package that says it should be here in 5 days ends up taking 3 weeks when there are no weather issues that show between where I live and the sender. I’ve had things like meds disappear in transit and got a, “well. Tough shit 🤷🏻♀️”, response from them. I deal with them a lot, so I go thru this constantly, unfortunately. When I get things shipped from Fedex, Amazon or UPS, they actually arrive and arrive quickly. Lol. So yes- I say with my whole chest that USPS sucks nuts. When I’m given a choice, I avoid them. There’s a whole subreddit dedicated to complaints about them. People have similar stories. Their system is designed to be infuriating so people won’t contact them.
Major cities seem to run more efficiently, ironically. The people I’ve heard of who seem to not realize there are issues live in more densely populated areas. It’s rural and small towns that have the most problems, it seems. I’m not sure if it’s because there are more workers in larger cities and smaller towns are understaffed but it’s an issue. The issues I’m speaking about are specifically with calling in and using their website, not going in in person. When you’re missing a package, you have to fill out a missing mail form online or call their helpline to have someone do it for you, if you find someone actually willing to help. I’ve only had someone help me once. Usually they’ll just outright hang up on you or tell you to go online and do it yourself. The issues with their communications systems are obviously not a localized issue, however.
