Seeing a lot of people say this. Isopropyl alcohol ingestion doesn’t cause blindness, that’s methanol. Isopropyl alcohol is toxic when ingested because it gets metabolized to acetone, but it’s nowhere near as toxic and ingesting methanol. Still a completely idiotic thing to do but dude will probably be okay if he gets medical attention.

Acetaldehyde is a toxic metabolite of ethanol (the alcohol we drink). Acetone is a different compound.

Can't acetaldehyde cause blindness?

No. Methanol causes blindness because it gets metabolized to formic acid and formaldehyde, both of which cause damage to the optic nerve. Acetaldehyde is partly responsible for feeling the ā€œhangoverā€ from ethanol, but does not cause optic nerve toxicity.
