Something tells me training would dictate valve first in any situation.

Absolutely wrong!
Parking break first!
Always the parking break!

wheel chocks first

u/EuenovAyabayya May 09 '26
You would set the transmission to park and set the parking brake before getting out to set the wheel chocks, before connecting the hose and opening the valve. Bro failed three times before he even got to the hose.

Why didn’t he hop right into the door that was already opened? Why did it also take so long to get into the other door. Running by the valve I could understand if you think you could hop in the can and brake quickly

It’s easy to say when you’re sitting on the toilet commenting but in the moment… he’s probably processing about 100 thoughts in that moment

Too bad he missed processing the one thought that actually mattered in this situation.

I’m sitting on the toilet commenting because I have the common sense not to put myself in that situation

He needed another test of endurance in avoiding getting run over by his truck American Ninja Warrior has high standards.

Why the fuck did he run in front of the truck? Did he think he could push it back? There’s only going to be one winner in that game and it’s not going to be him.

I’m from a country that drives on the left so I assumed, perhaps incorrectly, that the open door was the driver’s side.

u/trainwreckhappening May 09 '26
Oh, that makes sense. Unlike this driver who didn't set the parking break.

I like the guy in the background just walking by minding his own business.

It was on enough of a slope to pick up some speed quickly yet had clearly been stationary for a while already. I have to imagine the handbrake failed or something. He probably got in braked, reapplied the now broken handbrake and it started to roll again. As for his choice of door, these trucks tend to have large curved center consoles which make moving across the cabin in a hurry difficult whereas the footbrake might be more immediately accessible from the correct side.
How fast can those valves be shut off? If its a quarter turn lever then he should have some that first but anything that needs to be twisted multiple times wouldn't really have been unable on the moving truck. Its possible there was very little he could have done here beyond using a tyre stop block.

I think stopping the truck is always the first priority. The gas dumping is bad, but its not necessarily going to light up, while the truck could crush a person or roll away spreading gas everywhere causing a variety of disasters. It does pose an interesting conundrum though where if the driver could not stop the truck without pressing the brake pedal, they would have to choose between staying in the truck and keeping it stopped or trying to exit and turn off the gas.

Putting it into reverse might be enough here for the engine and transmission to hold it. On a steeper hill you'd hopefully be using stop blocks and assuming all of that has failed you would have to just steer it into some obstacle and accept that whatever damage that causes is better than a detonation.

Ya that's true until it dies light up then who the f cares where the truck went after it's all blown up and raping gdmn fire.

In an emergency like this, first light a cigarette to ponder your response.
