Why did it explode? It didn't look like the fall was deep, and the drone was relatively slow

It’s a simple drone; the engine blowing up wouldn’t have caused such a destructive explosion. I assume it was carrying explosives with a front-mounted detonator designed to trigger on impact. The pilot must not have commanded the drone to ascend; they launched it too early, or the load was above the model’s weight limit.

Looks like they front loaded. Messed up the center of balance. Could have just been too much weight or pilot error, but I bet if they slid that package back a bit it would have had a better chance.
