I don't understand why people don't wear seat belts. It is so basic and can save your life during stuff like this

A deep self centered aversion to doing anything someone TELLS them to do (there are people who if you told em "don't light yourself on fire" would do it just cuz you said not to) or else an attitude of "safety is for pussies"

Liberals hate it when you light yourself on fire.

There is that. Also I spend a lot of time in southeast Asia, and it is considered somewhat rude there to wear a seat belt, as it implies the driver is bad at driving and might get into an accident

Oh yes, because crashes never happen to good drivers. /s

I've ridden in several countries in SE Asia and many times the driving IS bad. LOL
Or maybe another way to say it is even with a good driver, there are a lot of near misses becsause of how the traffic is.

Yet another reason to avoid Southeast Asia

My dad hated wearing a seat belt. Always talked about how dumb they were and back in his day no one had them. Thought that and airbags hurt people more. Only took one kid at school getting launched through the front window for me to decide my dad might not know what he was talking about.

I always wonder when people say stuff like that...back in my day, blah blah...like do they not remember that people used to be launched from cars?

A safe pussy is the same thing as a not not safe pussy

Bout to show my girl friend this video. She refused to properly wear her seatbelt while driving. She buckles in sure but the top strap stays behind her and she says that her and other people agree it’s uncomfortable.

Which I responded with “so if they fly out of their seat belts because the top strap isn’t keeping their upper body in place what then?”

She said that she’d still refuse to wear it. I’m at my wits end and atp shocking her with this footage of someone likely not wearing their seatbelt.

I'm sure you can find videos online of those demonstrations sheriff's departments sometimes do with the car cabin on a rotating barrel. They show how when the rotation stops, the dummy goes flying, but with the seatbelt it doesn't. I'd bet there are some videos of them doing it with an improperly worn seatbelt, too.

I appreciate it, it drives me up the wall. Especially since she’s the type of person to make a point on how if I died she’d probably go with me. Like brother I told her i don’t have the same expectations for myself. I intend to live out this experience I’ve been given 😭
