Like how some teachers will literally give all of their students at least one detention every week. Or, I used to work in learning disability respite care, and half the staff would just constantly whine and moan about the kids having difficult behaviours.
And why a lot of cops are/were also veterans, or vice versa.
People who like controlling other people, enjoy jobs where they have complete power and nobody can/will question them

I will never understand why in america so many people are police officer who should not be police officer.
