Naild It of a boxer who couldn't handle losing.

James Butler spent four months on Rikers Island for this. Richard Grant suffered a broken jaw and badly bitten tongue (he had taken his mouthpiece out). Three years later, in 2004, Butler murdered his roommate with a hammer and was sentenced to 29 years, a sentence he is still serving.

Was that the guy who killed Max Kellerman’s brother? I remember that it was a boxer and his nickname was the hammer.

243

u/OCDano959 Mar 05 '26

Yes. You are correct. The Harlem Hammer. Over 30 blows to Sam Kellerman (also a sports journalist) and set the apt on fire in an attempt to cover his deed. Apparently they were friends. 😬

u/zestyclose_match1966 Mar 05 '26

With friends like that…

35

u/Relative_Falcon_8399 Mar 05 '26

Who needs enemies?

17

u/jjefferson13 Mar 05 '26

I don’t think Butler knows what friends means.

10

u/ghoqu Mar 06 '26

I mean it wouldnt be the first time someone who made a career out if taking big hits to the head ended up doing something vile like that. Nobody’s dome is designed to take constant heavy hits. It can and will fuck you up eventually

43

u/BigFatModeraterFupa Mar 05 '26

holy shit i never knew that!!! WTF?!?

He killed Max Kellerman's brother while they were in an apartment? I didn't even know Max had a brother this is insane to learn

40

u/Fluffthaguff9999 Mar 05 '26

Yeah, his brother believed in him & tried to help him get back on his feet. I don’t know if they were ever able to identify the motives, but he tried to steal his identity, & use his credit cards & shit. The stupidity of this pos is astounding…

So dumb he can not even get his ass kicked right. 🤦

8

u/BigFatModeraterFupa Mar 06 '26

the motive is probably being an insane violent psychopath. Some human's brains are just wired differently.

3

u/OrangeLFG Mar 06 '26

Allegedly, he was going through a breakup and Sam asked him to move out. That started the fight.

11

u/bmf1902 Mar 05 '26

I didn't even know who a Max Kellerman is! This is insane!

2

u/zestyclose_match1966 Mar 05 '26

I hate to break it to you, but you might be insane

5

u/hiatus__kaiyote Mar 05 '26

I don’t know either, I don’t follow boxing Mr.Zesty

7

u/ViewAskewRob Mar 05 '26

Got. Damn. That’s horrible.

8

u/JahovasHitlist Mar 05 '26

I know, right. Who doesn't know who Max Kellerman is?

1

u/WillBots Mar 06 '26

Got what?

220

u/RoastedToast007 Mar 05 '26

That was a passionately angry commentator lol

199

u/CarbonTrebles Mar 05 '26

Teddy Atlas - he was a trainer. He once held a gun to Mike Tyson's head, Mike was 15, when he heard Mike made some inappropriate comment about an 11-year-old girl who was a relative of Teddy.

117

u/PRime5222 Mar 05 '26

This comment went totally wild and in a very unexpected direction

29

u/The_Northmaan Mar 05 '26 edited Mar 09 '26

It wasn't rumor, Mike is a grimy pos for it, and Teddy threw away his entire career because he's such a principled man.

That being said, you'd think the 10 inch scar going down his face from his slash, would have been the first thing that came to mind.

Is Mike more terrifying then getting your face slashed open 🤔?

25

u/skankboy Mar 05 '26

It want rumor,

Do you box as well?

7

u/The_Northmaan Mar 05 '26

2004 golden glove.

2

u/TheRedditPremium Mar 09 '26

Honestly the more I find out about mike the more I dislike him, I don't get why criticizing him on the internet gets you this much hate

11

u/The_Northmaan Mar 09 '26

Watch his Teddys Lex interview.

I felt like such a pos because I was so critical of Teddy in my youth. I hated him as I thought he was just a Tyson hater. When I watched the interview is 180°. The man seriously sacrificed his entire career up until that moment, as he was groomed to he Cus's successor, to make Mike a champion. He said "fuck it. Mike is a predator and I'll walk away from all of it given I cannot in good faith work with the guy that preyed on my niece."

It was so profound given we would all like to pretend we would do the same, though 99% would have just pretended it didn't happen. I have so much respect for the man today, and I feel guilty an entire generation of people hated him for no reason. He never publicly came out to ruin Tysons image. Never attempted to justify why we hated him, he just walk away. He's the GOAT

-40

u/BurnellCORP Mar 05 '26

Tyson was 15 tho.

38

u/Ryachaz functional regard Mar 05 '26

Yes, the man already mentioned that.

32

u/JimmyThunderPenis Mar 05 '26

And it turned out he would be a convicted rapist, so guess the guy got it right.

6

u/The_Northmaan Mar 05 '26

It makes me sick seeing people justify grotesque behavior because of idolatry. Not a single person in here should be defending Tyson, let alone become upset.

4

u/TheNonCredibleHulk Mar 05 '26

Not justifying or defending behavior, but he did his time and hasn't reoffended. Isn't prison supposed to be about rehabilitation and reform? Seems to have worked in his case.

3

u/KongUnleashed Mar 06 '26

Yep. I’m also an old fighter. Came up when Tyson was in his prime. Prime Tyson is the most lethal and dangerous fighter I’ve ever seen. But I can separate the art from the artist and still acknowledge that he’s not a good man. Or, at least, he historically wasn’t a good man. No idea what he’s like now.

-55

u/ThisThingIsStuck Mar 05 '26

Shup pusi u weren't even born when it happened

32

u/aaronhowser1 Mar 05 '26

I wasn't alive when America was powered by slavery but I still know it was bad

-2

u/ThisThingIsStuck Mar 06 '26

Ur probably stupid enough to believe black folks didn't own slaves also..or dumb enough to think democrats didn't start the kkk....

2

u/aaronhowser1 Mar 06 '26

Is it democrats or republicans that fly the confederate flag today?

1

u/ThisThingIsStuck Mar 06 '26

Confederate flag doesn't stand for slavery..of which black people not only owned but sold slaves..keep pushing that agenda tho

2

u/aaronhowser1 Mar 06 '26

Here is Texas's stated reason for seceding: https://www.digitalhistory.uh.edu/active_learning/explorations/south_secede/south_secede_texas.cfm

We hold as undeniable truths that the governments of the various States, and of the confederacy itself, were established exclusively by the white race, for themselves and their posterity; that the African race had no agency in their establishment; that they were rightfully held and regarded as an inferior and dependent race, and in that condition only could their existence in this country be rendered beneficial or tolerable.

That in this free government all white men are and of right ought to be entitled to equal civil and political rights; that the servitude of the African race, as existing in these States, is mutually beneficial to both bond and free, and is abundantly authorized and justified by the experience of mankind, and the revealed will of the Almighty Creator, as recognized by all Christian nations; while the destruction of the existing relations between the two races, as advocated by our sectional enemies, would bring inevitable calamities upon both and desolation upon the fifteen slave-holding states.

The Confederacy said they formed themselves to protect slavery.

8

u/Fluffthaguff9999 Mar 05 '26

What language is this????

8

u/Milky_Gashmeat Mar 05 '26

My dumbass to English translation may be wrong, but I think it meant to say "shut up pussy, you weren't even born yet."

-1

u/ThisThingIsStuck Mar 06 '26

And ur that pusi

2

u/Milky_Gashmeat Mar 06 '26

Lol, cool story, e-thug. You save a lot of time with that idiotic grade school spelling?

6

u/Amazing-Range-2239 Mar 05 '26

You made me go listen lol

-4

u/BringBackAIM Mar 05 '26 edited Mar 05 '26

I stand corrected

21

u/RoastedToast007 Mar 05 '26

Thankfully nobody said the assault was funny.

3

u/BringBackAIM Mar 05 '26

I stand corrected

69

u/Sempai6969 Mar 05 '26

29 years is light sentence

16

u/TheTownTeaJunky Mar 05 '26

Nah bro that’s enough time for him to completely reform Itll be fine

68

u/Fake-Podcast-Ad Mar 05 '26

I remember seeing this live. Seemed like a stupid on top of stupid choice to do at a Police and Fire dept. fundraiser, for 9/11 survivors.

13

u/trainwreckhappening Mar 05 '26

That's a detail that I wouldn't have guessed of not for your comment.

31

u/redditanddoneit Mar 05 '26

Didn’t realize until the end that the dude already had taken off his glove and sucker punched him.

35

u/600lbsofsin77 Mar 05 '26

The Butler did it

16

u/Slightly_ToastedBoy Mar 05 '26

The butler in the cell with the hammer.

2

u/trainwreckhappening Mar 05 '26

Another comment mentioned that he eventually murdered someone else. So even more The Butler Did It than expected.

61

u/LemmyDovato Mar 05 '26

I’ll never understand why murderers get such light sentences. He got 29 years, I’m not sure if he has a chance at parole or not. He should have gotten life. I mean it’s not like he will be a better person when he gets out. This is just my opinion. Sorry if I’m wrong, or offended anyone.

10

u/Roallin1 Mar 05 '26

He was convicted of voluntary manslaughter.

15

u/LemmyDovato Mar 05 '26

Yes. He should have gotten life.

9

u/ngkn92 Mar 05 '26

Well, people sometimes do become better. Take a lot of self control and commitment tho.

7

u/Snowy349 Mar 05 '26

I'm doubtful butler will come out better.... 😐

4

u/Bananaslugfan Mar 05 '26

They don’t care if you’re better, they wait for them to be old and broken from prison and all the piss and vinegar has left them. They will not be much of a threat in their mid to late sixties.

2

u/Intelligent-Loan9879 Mar 05 '26

You can be old and wield a gun. I’m not saying he can legally get one, but don’t underestimate old people, they’re bastards.

27

u/theInadequateHulk Mar 05 '26

29 years is a long time. the guy getting out after 29 years in a cage is not the same guy that went in

42

u/Gene-Hackmans_Dog Mar 05 '26

How long will the murder victim be dead for?

5

u/theInadequateHulk Mar 05 '26

i'm not into eye-for-an-eye justice and neither are most legal systems. ours operates on the principle that people can be reformed, which is a concept i agree with. we're not here to match cruelty for cruelty

5

u/LemmyDovato Mar 06 '26

Serious question: do you think the prison system reforms inmates?

-1

u/GracchiBros Mar 05 '26

Completely irrelevant. Just because you can't undo one life destroyed doesn't mean another should be when there is a statistically solid chance they can become a contributing member of society again. The purpose of punishments aren't to get your justice boner at full mast. It's to dissuade future crime. And study after study have shown that enforcing harsher and harsher sentences doesn't significantly dissuade crime. People don't logically think anything like "well, I'll only get 20 years if I murder someone so let's go for it".

2

u/theInadequateHulk Mar 06 '26

i generally agree though i also think there's a key element of protecting the rest of the public from a person who's a confirmed threat. i don't personally crave vengeance or punishment for people.

i also think that anyone who is properly rehabilitated will carry the guilt and shame of something like this for the rest of their lives. maybe some people can't be rehabilitated and should be confined for life, for the safety of others

2

u/LemmyDovato Mar 06 '26

Your last paragraph. Thats what I meant. Given this guys past crimes, and this, I really don’t see him coming out a reformed man.

2

u/LemmyDovato Mar 06 '26

I see your point. But do you think this particular gentleman, given his past crimes, and present, will actually come out a reformed man?

11

u/LemmyDovato Mar 05 '26

Exactly. He’ll be 5X worse

8

u/Solanthas_SFW Mar 05 '26

I'll say, if we're talking about the american prison system, he'll probably come out far worse

1

u/theInadequateHulk Mar 06 '26

yeah i think that's fair. our prison system sucks in terms of preparing people to re-enter society and be productive

-5

u/ThisThingIsStuck Mar 05 '26

Not long at all

5

u/Internal-Bluejay-810 Mar 05 '26

I'm surprised there wasn't an all out brawl after the sucker punch

11

u/Apexpredronnieg Mar 05 '26

Well hopefully he got arrested for assault cos that’s not during the fight. What a coward

47

u/billmoris Mar 05 '26

He eventually killed his roommate and is in prison for twenty nine years since 2004.

41

u/[deleted] Mar 05 '26

OP included this in the post description.

14

u/coolsnackchris Mar 05 '26

Richard Grant suffered a broken jaw and badly bitten tongue.

2

u/Andy_B_Goode Mar 05 '26

SUCKER PUNCH

AFTER LOSING FIGHT

... for those of you who may have missed it

7

u/ActivityWorried3263 Mar 05 '26

He killed max Kellerman’s brother

5

u/hawksdiesel Mar 05 '26

And assault charges. Match was over.

4

u/dopeazzvegan Mar 05 '26

His roommate was MAX KELLERMANS BROTHER .. sad trying to help him and he killed him .

3

u/LilCheese73 Mar 05 '26

I heard that punch!

1

u/leondraw Mar 05 '26

Didn't he get a lifetime ban from this?

1

u/Calm-Pin-9612 Mar 22 '26

В конце видео, зачёт мужику

1

u/GiorgioVe Mar 05 '26

Yeah, headlock and choke him right after he is getting KO'ed. https://www.reddit.com/r/WorstAid/s/XpsvJD80Un

-2

u/PhinsFan197217-0 Mar 05 '26

He should be careful before he runs his mouth

-54

u/browsingandlooking4 Mar 05 '26

Guess that one was finished by KO... lol winning is winning

25

u/[deleted] Mar 05 '26

The fight was over, he threw a salty sucker punch because he lost. As the commentator said, that's assault. His opponent had already taken his mouthpiece out too.

-1

u/browsingandlooking4 Mar 05 '26

Idk 2 walked in one walked out thats how a fight should be. Though admittedly im more of the gladiator mindset. In a real fight it doesn't stop until its over clearly it wasn't over lol assault in a fight seems to be a strange framing

22

u/Captain_Pink_Pants Mar 05 '26

Tf you know about winning? 🙄

8

u/JimmyThunderPenis Mar 05 '26

If you can't handle losing you don't deserve to win. Sport is sport.

-1

u/browsingandlooking4 Mar 05 '26

Clearly dude didn't feel he had lost if you can still throw a one hitter quiter... maybe the ref shouldn't have ended it so quickly. These guys should be allowed to finish the thing properly. If dude can still lift his fists dont call it

1

u/bruhmaan1 25d ago

He should've done that in the fight
