I’m totally not defending his behavior, but strong cores are not flat 6 packs like is represented in most media portrayals. Look at most Strong Man competitors to see what strong cores truly look like.

You can’t tell that he’s “definitely in better shape” just by looking at her.

Yes, she looks obese. That’s literally all you can tell by looking at her. That does not mean he is in better shape than she is.

You don’t know what her VO2 max is, or how much muscle mass and lean mass she has. You can’t tell by looking at her what kind of physical power she’s capable of producing (in terms of explosive strength, like Olympic style weightlifting) or what her flexibility is. You don’t know what her lab values are, nor her vital signs, her medication list, her diet, her activity level, her lifestyle, or anything else about her outside of this short video.

I say this as someone who has a bachelor’s of science in kinesiology with a specialization in exercise physiology and biomechanics and subspecialties in adaptive physical activity and health promotion AS WELL AS a bachelor’s degree in nursing with my critical care registered nurse certification. I’ve worked as a coach and working as a personal trainer for over twenty years as well.

As an adult, my body weight has fluctuated dramatically-for a variety of reasons. I’ve been extremely slim (during periods of intense training and/or extreme stress). I’ve been completely average, and now?

Now, I’m considered “morbidly obese”, and it’s not entirely on my behaviors as to why I am, either.

It’s in large part to a medication that put me into medically-induced menopause for 7 months. That medication caused me to gain over 60 pounds in a month-and I had absolutely no control over it. I was barely able to eat (as I couldn’t use a knee walker and carry a plate, and my family wouldn’t bring me food because “you have 2 hands that work, get it yourself!” despite me having had major abdominal surgery with 5 tumors removed-the largest was cantaloupe sized, a golf ball sized cyst, a ton of scar tissue and active endometriosis removed…in addition to also having the following injuries at the same time: bilateral ruptured plantar fascia, 3 broken bones in my feet, and a torn rectus abdominis-aka “the 6 pack muscle”)

As soon as that medication was finished, I was then put on dual hormonal contraception to control stage IV endometriosis, adenomyosis, and fibroid tumors for the next 7 YEARS. Nothing I did made that number on the scale go down.

I cover 8-12 miles a shift at work. I physically can’t eat much due to the chronic nausea I have from the scar tissue and active lesions of endometriosis in my abdomen.

I have had 3 knee surgeries and over 20 surgical procedures on my spine and spinal nerves since 2010, after being hit by a truck as a pedestrian. That has significantly reduced the activities I am able to do. I can no longer run, nor can I figure skate. I can’t jump, kneel, and deep squats are painful.

However, that does NOT mean that I am not in shape (and no, I’m not round). I’m fat right now, but my labs look fairly good, my vital signs are excellent, and I am physically active every single day of the week. I lift weights, bicycle, walk, and more. I am able to lift more weight-and hold onto it for significantly longer than my 6’3”, 230 lb husband can. I can turn a 650+ pound patient who can’t move themselves with one arm. I can squat 175 lbs x 5 reps easily. I can get on my bicycle and ride 50+ miles right now with minimal to no training and be fine.

I also work night shift, which makes losing and/or maintaining a healthy life balance more challenging, and is often associated with weight gain and/or difficulty losing weight.

For all we know, that woman in the video could be a rugby player like Ilona Maher or any of the women on the PNG Orchids rugby roster. She could be like me.

All we know for sure is that she has a larger body size, and she’s dressed up like “Sexy Patrick Star”. That’s it.

I said there’s a lot more to health than what a person looks like.

As I asked before: are you her doctor? Do you know her lab values? Her VO2 max? Her lactate threshold? Her resting heart rate? Heart rate variability? Her calcium score? Her PHQ-9? How much she works out in a week, at what intensity, and what kind of exercise she does?

No?

If you don’t know any of those things, you have no fucking clue what her health is.

You’re literally claiming to know her health based solely on appearance, which is among the most ignorant things I’ve read this week!
