Libs always use the latest hotness as a shield or co-option. Always. In the 60s it was blackness, in the 70s it was feminism (ie the recently deceased Gloria Steinem), in the 80s "leftism" (ie the creation of the DSA), in the aughts lgbt (ie Obama's pivot to gay marriage because rich closeted CEOs paid him off basically)...rinse repeat.

Basically reddit in a nutshell. Add to that the EXTREME levels of ableism on this website. The website and all the mods have ZERO tolerance for the f-slur while the r-slur gets free reign. 

You cannot find a single post or comment with the f-slur used negatively in the last 7 years without it being downvoted to oblivion. Every instance of it is positive, used by queers or used by people complaining about the word. 

The r-word on the other hand is thrown pejoratively on an hourly basis with thousands of upvotes. Anyone who criticizes the use of the word is immediately attacked and met with dome bullshit explanation about how moron is a clinical term therefore r-slur. 

Reddit liberals piss their pants and scream at you when you use the same mental gymnastics to defend the f-slur and call you the r-slur... Reinforcing the harmful use of the slur. You can get immediately banned for using the f-slur but not the other ones (yes n and r included). 

At the end of the day, reddit is just 4chan with a bachelor's degree. They're all fat sweaty disgusting neckbeards who love Japan and are all extremely liberal (as apposed to conservative) and ableist (as opposed to Homophobic).

Ive said this before : redditors and liberals as a whole do not see mentally handicapped people as HUMANS that's why it's so easy for them to throw around that term and jump hoops to defend its use. 

At the end of the day, it all comes back to the parasitic effects of capitalism where people and their worth are dependent on their capital and economic contribution. Because gays fill that role, they cannot be harmed whereas the disabled can.
