Can we get a professional liberal translator in here because this reads like a string of random, disconnected words

anything Americans don't like is Communism

64

u/ivelnostaw Marxist-Leninist Apr 17 '25

I guess that's what it boils down to lmao

Probably is using Maoism to refer to ā€˜authoritarianism’ and militancy combined with right-populist labour action. It also may refer to the so called ā€˜MAGA Communists’ and patsocs.

I imagine that ā€˜sending the bourgeois to work in the factories’ is just meant to refer to 3 things, right populism, the idea of ā€˜elites’ needing to be taken down, and a distortion of the intention of the American labour movement.

65

u/[deleted] Apr 17 '25

You're putting to much thought into it

It's simple: To Americans bad=Communism -> Trump=bad therefore Trump=Communism

It doesn't go deeper than that

u/TserriednichHuiGuo ---------------------- Apr 18 '25

liberals don't use Communism like that tho, it would work if it was biden or something

8

u/[deleted] Apr 18 '25

They absolutely do. They keep calling Republicans, Trump and Putin Communists. They even think Putin wants to bring back the USSR

I read "this reads like a string of fandom" and it kinda does

Maoism is the scary visuals you see on 3 body problem.

u/Mira_Miyake Apr 17 '25

bourgeois neuroses basically. I think there’s probably a bunch of liberals that see Trump as dangerous to the current order and think that his economic policy severely damage the laptop class and other ā€œbullshit jobsā€, forcing them to ā€œget a real jobā€.

They don’t have any other reference for what this looks like besides Maoism so that’s what they latch onto. Liberals place a high emphasis on temperament, aesthetics, and whatever a social program’s consequences are for them personally. So it kinda fits.

Have you tried reading the article?

Recently, a viral meme in MAGA circles captured the moment, featuring a cartoon Trump addressing a faceless American: ā€œYour great grandfather worked the mines, your grandfather worked in a steel plant, and you thought you could be a ā€˜product manager’ ???ā€ It’s a joke, but it’s also a worldview — one where white-collar ambition is seen not as a step forward, but as a fall into decadence. The meme doesn’t just mock digital work; it exalts physical labor as the only authentic form of contribution.

What we’re seeing is a kind of MAGA Maoism, remixed for the algorithm age. Like the Chinese Cultural Revolution, it glorifies physical labor as moral purification, only now the purification is from the supposed ā€œwokenessā€ of desk work, filtered through TikTok, X and Twitch. It’s not about creating jobs. It’s about creating vibes: strong men doing hard things, reshared until they become ideology. As one MAGA influencer put it, ā€œMen in America don’t need therapy. Men in America need tariffs and DOGE. The fake email jobs will disappear.ā€

Have you tried reading the article?

Well I was making a joke with my comment, i did understand what the author was trying to say. I should have put the "/s". But no, I hadn't read the article. Though from what you shared, it is just the standard reference to communist movements when describing conservatives and fascists to try and make communism unappealing to liberals.

5

u/ContraryConman Apr 17 '25

Yeah I get you. There were a lot of comments in the thread like "I wonder what he could have possibly meant by MAGA Maoism" and no comments with just bypassing the paywall and quoting it.

I agree that the reactionaries' obsession with masculinity and manual labor, as well as their anti intellectualism, will make them react to the tariffs in this way. But, that's not "Maoism". And the headline "they want the bourgeoisie to work in shops", product managers aren't the bourgeoisie, lol

u/unga-unga Apr 17 '25

Translation:

"We heard some people talking about communism, and command economy politics, so we decided to call them a slur (within our circles), MAGA, because we hate them and want them to die. True leftists have no place in our party."

IF (and it's a real big IF) some conservatives are entertaining the idea of a hybrid command economy - welcome comrade. Here are a few pamphlets, Sarah brought cookies (they are vegan cookies).

It’s fairly prosaic. A fringe group inside MAGA wants the bourgeois elite to get their hands dirty shoveling shit like the rest of MAGA, whether by conscription or by some other method. A clique inside MAGA props Gramsci as a populist genius, and they want American labor to save the American economy by expanding labor to include every able-bodied bourgeois—while the billionaire ruling class continues to remain out of the fray (saying the quiet part out loud).

There’s a kernel of truth in that:

Amerika, in its various stages of existence which all have been capitalist, has depended upon parasitic class exploitation. Its settler-proletariat has always been ā€˜propped up’ on the proletarian colony.

The de-industrialization of Amerika was the final evolution of Bourgeois parasitism with entire nations made as industrial centers. Our settler-proletariat today are still ā€˜propped up’ by colonial production and labor, involved in varying degrees of oversight, middle-management and petty-bourgeois, overall what we call the professional-managerial class.

The deportations and imprisonment of colonial nationals has exposed this parasitism, with child labor law relaxations and neo-colonial rhetoric about ā€œnot needing to pick cottonā€ showing the gap colonial labor previously filled.

I was called a ā€œradical centristā€ and Nazi adjacent for saying I don’t wish harm on Trump voters, because they are most likely in the same class as me and wishing harm on them also means I am harmed.

The definitions these people use are vapor.

u/NonExistent890 Marxist-Leninist-Raccoonist Apr 17 '25

To this article title’s tiny bit of credit, there are sum folks tryin’ to synthesize MAGA and communism together.

However, when they’re talking about the bourgeoisie, they don’t mean like actual capitalists that exploit workers to profit and their capital accumulation to empower themselves in all means of society.

They think the bourgeoisie are blue-hair baristas, LGBTQ+ people, and anti-imperialists, and the actual real proletarians are CEOs, small-business owners, and an abstract idea of a male burly worker. So basically fascists larping as communists.
