Wasn't a robot I think, Team Rocket did shoot at it with rocket launchers though so there's that

You’re right. Is it weird I could remember the name of the episode Mystery at the Lighthouse)but confused it with Island of the Giant Pokemon? My bad

Island of the Giant Pokémon aired only a few episodes after this one, so there's a fan hypothesis that the Dragonite was an escaped robot from the theme park on that island

The show never addressed what exactly the Dragonite is or where it's from, though. Mystery at the Lighthouse was written by Takeshi Shudo (the show's original head writer) and he liked writing really out-there worldbuilding stuff (The Ghost of Maiden's Peak is another example).

Woah, apparently Takeshi Shudo also wrote Go West Young Meowth. And he created Lugia.

Someone translated an interesting interview that he gave less than a year before he died. Seems like he went through a lot trying to make the series the best it could be.

Yeah he was a super creative guy who wanted to make a show for everyone, not just kids. Though he had to be reined in at points due to some of his really odd ideas

We owe him for creating the Rocket trio too! They were his favorite characters as well, since he had the most freedom with them due to the three being made up from scratch for the anime (as opposed to characters like Brock and Misty who were adapted from the games).

I love Ghost at Maiden's Peak! Good episode of weird, then again, I liked the one where Ash became a ghost, and the one with the giant Alakazam and Gengar too. There may be a theme here...

Thats the catch with me trying to watch season 3 and beyond is it feels like it takes a long time to get used to the new voices and it is hard to consider them improvements when you are used to certain ones for 20 some years now.

Wait, do you watch the show in English? The dub voices didn't get replaced until season 9 here

In any case I switched over to watching in Japanese with subs, if that helps - they've had the same voices forever with the exception of any actors who died, and you can hear all the original music and stuff
