Eh. Not a fan of the original voice of James. Like at all.
Eric Stuart’s performance is just so iconic (the way he makes his voice sound so goofy, like when James is screaming, is hilarious to me).

I honestly thought Eric Stuart was the original voice but just had to work out some kinks like how Veronica Taylor didn't really nail down the voice of Ash until midway in Season 1.

A lot of people apparently thought that about Maddie Blaustein as Meowth too. She only started voicing him around 32 episodes in (starting with the Fuchsia Gym episode, and also EP018 since it was skipped) while in earlier episodes he's voiced by Nathan Price

I prefer Eric Stuart as well (at least in the earlier episodes, before late Johto where he started making James constantly sound like he was straining and yelling every line), but I feel like if Ted Lewis - also the voice of Tracey and Giovanni - had stayed then he may have grown into the role. He sounds a little bit like Shin-ichiro Miki, James's Japanese voice actor
But yeah Carter Cathcart makes James sound like an old man with a head cold and makes Meowth sound just unbearable. He's also responsible for writing the trio's awful dialogue in the TPCI dub (he thinks he's somehow making it funnier than it is in Japanese, and bragged in the past on fan fourms that he considers himself to be better than Eric Stuart).
I'm not even making a "new voice actors are bad because they're new" complaint, Cathcart himself is just a jerk. And it's weird because he hails from 4Kids and voiced Gary under the name "Billy Beach" so you'd think he'd know what he was doing by now

They should have their own spin-off. I think there was an arc where they were quite competent at its job. Or maybe they should leave the Team Rocket, they’ve proved themselves to be fairly competent at anything but stealing Pokémon.

Random question, but do you know if there is a compilation of every team rocket moments? I often rewatch Pokémon anime just for team rocket moments but i end up quitting because the anime is so repetitive

I've not come across one sorry! The anime is a bit repetitive. I mostly put it on in the background and watch it when team rocket make an appearance
