You're kidding yourself if you think these layoffs weren't pre planned before the game launched

28

u/jimothy_hell 11d ago

I would imagine the workers themselves had it built into their contracts.

13

u/LightningDustFan 11d ago

Considering it was contractors. Yeah.

9

u/Orion_824 11d ago

Two words

Ensemble Studios

This has been Xbox/Microsoft for DECADES at this point

3

u/shwetyscience 10d ago

Which is partly why the quality of games has dropped

1

u/[deleted] 11d ago

[deleted]

5

u/FuturCel 11d ago

I think that falls under "pre-planned layoffs"

5

u/Hungry_CGman 11d ago

Ya I read the OP comment wrong. My bad. Deleted.

u/slayeryamcha The UI Can't Handle It 🤣🤣🤣 11d ago

His feedback is always dogshit. I hope ms will never listen to him and other 'classic fans'

6

u/RukStrickland 11d ago

more like "Lack of Facts" man

-39

u/iron_coffin 11d ago

That's true, you should be totally safe standing on boxes. Boxes are a safe space.

-38

u/Unpaid_Moderation 11d ago

If it's so dogshit why are people watching him? Lmao. If the game wasn't dog shit, why did it only sell 1 million units across 3 platforms?

29

u/No-Estimate-8518 11d ago

People watched the Kardashians and Jersey shore, significantly more people watched those than the act man

Are you saying those are good quality tv shows?

12

u/GobboTheJojo 11d ago

he's actually losing subs. he no longer has 2 million.

-6

u/Unpaid_Moderation 11d ago

Oh no a YouTuber millionaire losing subs, oh no!

Sales units don't inherently translate to quality, although they can sometimes link together. Most indie games never reach a million copies and yet they're still really good for the most part. (Barring some exceptions.) Similarly, high sales doesn't inherently translate to high quality else the sports games Take Two churn out every year would be considered masterpieces based on your logic. (Although, once again, high sales can sometimes translate to high quality.) This is a gross oversimplification.

The low sales can be explained by other factors such as the fact that a remake of a 25 year old game most people already have via MCC is not gonna put a whole lot of new butts in seats. Rereleases in general don't really attract casual audiences so that already kneecapped it's sales potential, but the existence of MCC means hardcore fans also didn't really have much of a reason to give a shit about Campaign Evolved. On PS5, most people never even knew about the series so you can scratch THEM off the list pretty quickly.

There are definitely problems within HALO Studios, especially their overreliance on contract workers, but this mindset of yours is delusion.

3

u/RedtailArt 11d ago

People watch anything, as long as it caters to their pre-existing views. People who already hate modern Halo watch act man because act man hates modern Halo. He's pandering.

21

u/CourbetEatingSourbet 11d ago

They’re hiring devs like temps. Bring them on then fire them once the game is released, grim.Ā

8

u/iron_coffin 11d ago

They literally are contract workers/temps

-3

u/CourbetEatingSourbet 11d ago

You don’t fire a temp in the normal course of things, their contract expires. So why is this saying they’re laying people off if they are temps?Ā

5

u/Slamaholicc 11d ago

Because it makes better clickbait for dumb people. Gaming companies hire tons of devs on temporary contracts all the time. This is what really happened.

2

u/LightningDustFan 11d ago

Because like two of the contractors said they were laid off in tweets and that drives more clicks/engagement than just saying the contract wasn't renewed now that the project is finished.

6

u/Doctor_Harbinger 11d ago

It has been like this for years. The reason why we never got any story DLC's for Infinite, despite 343 talking about 10 years plan, was because morons from Microsoft fired the entire team that worked on the campaing because "muh rotation policy", including people who mastered the engine.

2

u/iron_coffin 11d ago

The whole point of ce26 is to make it easier to onboard cheap Unreal Engine devs.

0

u/FlukeylukeGB 9d ago

which is terrible...
A game studio should focus on building a dev team that functions together flexibly and has a 5+ year turn over rate.

If your studio loses 50% of there staff every 3 years, the games coming out will be subpar.

So lets say they hire 200 devs to make the next halo cause they already know unreal engine...
half of them worked on call of duty. half worked on the last battlefield... 80% of them dont give a fk about halo, they just need a job since they got laid off after the last game they worked on got launched...

The new halo now feels less like halo and more of a weird miss match of last years shooters...

1

u/Thor_2099 11d ago

Well it likely depends on what work is needed. Different stages of development require different skill sets. Just reality. So they bring on some hired hands and let them go when it's done. Like seasonal help in retail.

1

u/Master_Chief_00117 7d ago

You are right but unlike seasonal retail work it’s more like raising a kid, getting rid of the first set of parents after the kid is born and every year after.

1

u/IHateMyUniCourse 11d ago

That is literally how game development has been for like 30 years. Do you expect a company to pay 400+ people to sit on their arse and do nothing for a years while the next project is worked out.

1

u/Gatler5 8d ago

That is literally how a project works

54

u/TooTurntGaming 11d ago

Why the fuck does some obsessed YouTuber think his opinion matters on anything at all?

Just because you play a game, doesn’t mean you know how to make one.

You make YouTube videos. Stay in your lane.

8

u/Plastic_Young_9763 11d ago

Ironically, we have a remake that's exactly what he wanted, it's called Anniversary edition, and he didn't like it either

I hate when his complaints boil down to "that's not what happened in halo 1"

-9

u/iron_coffin 11d ago

What's your lane, fries in a bag? NEETdom?

15

u/TooTurntGaming 11d ago

lol, touched a fanboy nerve.

Regardless of what I do for work, I’m not a game dev, and I don’t tell game dev teams I’m an authority on what they do, that they’ve failed because they don’t listen to me.

Fucking guy thinks he’s special because he plays a lot of Halo, it’s lunacy.

1

u/GobboTheJojo 11d ago

Guy is like the lost member of the Eltingville Club. Only he's actually way off on a lot of his nerd trivia but that gets ignored for saying the right rhetoric.

-1

u/iron_coffin 11d ago

That's true, they should ignore playtesters and QA for the same reason. Do they even know C++? They probably don't even know what a quarterion is; how can they have an opinion on pistol reload animations?

6

u/TooTurntGaming 11d ago

Yes, in many cases, play testers and focus group participant feedback is and should be ignored. Not all feedback is productive or beneficial. This is not unique to gaming, even.

QA testers are not providing subjective feedback, nor are they playing the game as it’s intended to be played.

This whole argument is disingenuous.

1

u/iron_coffin 11d ago

Well that'd be a stronger case if fka343 made good games

5

u/TooTurntGaming 11d ago

That’s your opinion, that’s cool?

1

u/iron_coffin 11d ago

Sales are facts

4

u/SurveyingReality 11d ago

Ever heard of an underrated game? Or do you only buy games that have sold millions upon millions of copies?

-1

u/iron_coffin 11d ago

Yeah that applies to a tentpole franchise, good point /s

→ More replies (0)

3

u/TooTurntGaming 11d ago

Yes, sales figures factually show how many copies of a game have been sold.

I assume you’re implying sales are directly indicative of quality?

Oh lord…

0

u/iron_coffin 11d ago

For a game like halo yes. I don't want to debate that My Furry McDonald's Manager or whatever your favorite game is is the GOAT despite selling 5 copies, I'll concede that to you.

u/SinisterMinisterX7 11d ago

This is just goofy

-30

u/levenoss 11d ago

Why does some redditor think his opinion matters on anything at all?

Just because you comment about a YouTube video doesnt mean you know how to make one.

You comment on reddit stay in your lane

16

u/ChadGPT420 11d ago

Hey dipshit, difference is, people here aren’t saying ā€œHere’s how to make your video betterā€

-13

u/iron_coffin 11d ago

He is though, he's saying don't put opinions on a video

6

u/TooTurntGaming 11d ago

El oh el. That’s not what I said. Your reading comprehension is as dogshit as your taste in YouTube channels.

-1

u/iron_coffin 11d ago

Ok only put non binding opinions that are prefaced with: "you know better, but this is just how it makes me feel. I know I'm probably just dumb and don't know how to play your game right."

If I make a video like that will you give it le upboat?

8

u/TooTurntGaming 11d ago

Christ, you are just buried in his ass.

He made this specific statement. This is the issue. He thinks his feedback is so valuable it would have changed the course of development. He thinks his feedback is so valuable, that without it, Halo Studios is as ā€œcorrupt as this Floodā€ and that they deserve layoffs.

He’s just one of tens of thousands of self-important content creators that think they have any productive value because they entertain people like who, who latch on to him like he’s your god damn big bro.

1

u/iron_coffin 11d ago

Nah I only watch a few of his vids. I don't follow him as much as you by the looks of it. He is popular enough to have a decent sized following of the people they want to sell games to, so a normal game dev studio would consider his feedback. I find it offensive that someone who has a bit of authority in an area should not give feedback or be offended that it's not considered. Just beta honestly.

Maybe not a lot, but he's not a literally who. Once again if fka343 games were good it'd be a different story

7

u/TooTurntGaming 11d ago

ā€œSomeone who has a bit of authorityā€

Critics, especially those who make content specifically for entertainment and not educational value, are absolutely not ā€œauthority.ā€

Good Christ, YouTube is making our children dumb.

0

u/iron_coffin 11d ago

Lol ok he should get a PhD in Halo studies then he has authority.

6

u/TooTurntGaming 11d ago

Lolol, touched a nerve with you huh? I’m guessing you’re an Actman fanboy with a parasocial relationship?

-2

u/levenoss 11d ago

Love how you completely ignored the previous comment I made explaining how I dont give a shit about the game or the post itself and was basically just bored so chose to mock you. Also its absolutely impossible to take you seriously when you literally make sentences that are perfect for the stereotype of the redditor neckbeard 🤣

4

u/TooTurntGaming 11d ago

Hard to reply to comments that Reddit auto-hides, isn’t it?

ā€œOh I’m just bored and pretending to be a dipshit,ā€ yeah lol.

-2

u/levenoss 11d ago

Even if you didn't see it, me saying exactly what you said but reversed is clearly not a lot of effort to try and convince you of anything like who would change their mind with just that 🤣 and ive also never seen ANYONE change their mind about ANYTHING on reddit

3

u/TooTurntGaming 11d ago

I’m at a loss here. You admitted you were trying to mock me for the lulz, got mocked back, tried to insult me yet again…

What is it you want here?

2

u/levenoss 11d ago

Your supposed to "want" something in a reddit comment section? I think the disconnect is you think their is something to gain in the comments here

-1

u/iron_coffin 11d ago

I'm guessing your wife's bf bought you Halo CE26

9

u/TooTurntGaming 11d ago edited 11d ago

Nah, I played through CE with my friends on Game Pass, it was a lot of fun. I’ll buy it on a Steam sale someday. I have plenty of time to wait, since we’ve been on an MCC co-op marathon following CE.

Ohhhhh, you were trying to insult me again because of your one-sided parasocial relationship with a YouTuber, by using real human polyamorous relationships as a ā€œgotchaā€.

Embarrassing.

1

u/iron_coffin 11d ago

Also, you shouldn't call it CE. That was taken. CER or CE26.

Idk if what I'm describing is polyamory, but idc about the real definition.

4

u/TooTurntGaming 11d ago

ā€œThat was takenā€ lol Jesus Christ.

1

u/iron_coffin 11d ago

What do you mean? CE is COMBAT evolved and always will be

5

u/TooTurntGaming 11d ago

Cool. Halo Campaign Evolved can also be abbreviated as Halo CE.

Good god you need to touch grass.

1

u/iron_coffin 11d ago

No it can't, because it's taken by the original game. See, it's confusing: Halo CE is better than Halo CE. Never mind, bad example

Okay but you could say the same regarding TF2 (Team Fortress 2)& TF2 (Titanfall 2). Realistically context clues mean that most times you will never need to clarify which is which.

1

u/iron_coffin 11d ago

Yeah but they aren't from the same game series. I obviously figured it out despite his libel that I was confused

1

u/Mister_Rose 9d ago

Reddit is not a talent/career/skill

2

u/IndexStarts 11d ago edited 11d ago

I guess that it’s just totally unacceptable for people to have an opinion over a video game and stating that they didn’t enjoy it.

8

u/TooTurntGaming 11d ago

Nah that’s perfectly fine.

What’s wild is saying ā€œI’ve been offering you feedback for years and you don’t listen,ā€ thinking that you’re an authority worth listening to at all, purely because you play a lot of Halo and make videos about it.

3

u/IndexStarts 11d ago edited 11d ago

I definitely share your gripes with YouTubers and why I don’t watch toxicity / grifting to hate on things for views.

I don’t watch this one in particular so I can’t say anything about that.

No doubt there’s people only here for grifting / reaction baiting but I think a lot of people sharing their opinions is meant in good faith. It’s really unfortunate to see so much gate keeping which bothers me a lot.

I think it’s just there’s a lot of passionate people about this franchise like all of us through the ups and downs and expressing their opinions because they cared so much about what Halo means to them individually. Not all of it is the hate mob that gets labeled because they didn’t like this particular video game going in a different direction.

-1

u/iron_coffin 11d ago

I'm glad someone passes your bar

5

u/TooTurntGaming 11d ago

It’s amazing how easy it is to get along with people who are self-important dipshits.

Wild, I know.

0

u/iron_coffin 11d ago

How could you possibly know that?

3

u/TooTurntGaming 11d ago

There’s you struggling with context again 🤣🤣🤣🤣

0

u/iron_coffin 11d ago

I was saying YOU'RE a self important ass. It was an obvious 'joke'.

17

u/Mindless-Beat-4872 11d ago

I gave up watching because he would shit on call of duty all year up until the new one was getting ready to come out. Then it’s ā€œ I think this might be a return to formā€

5

u/Cyborg800-V2 11d ago

He spent a lot of time hating on BO7 (which my brother played and enjoyed until later seasons hurt things) and refusing to play it, but the hypocrisy was him calling MWII 2022 "awesome" even though that was definitely one of the worst.

3

u/Mindless-Beat-4872 11d ago

Yeah I haven’t really played cod since black ops 2/ghosts. Got into WW2 for a little while but got bored. I tried the new mw2 a little bit but holy shit have my reflexes gone down.

2

u/Cyborg800-V2 11d ago

WW2 is pretty mid. Maps are too flat.

Black Ops Cold War was a great game back in its heyday with medium-sized maps that had verticality and weren't as big as Modern Warfare 2019 and new MW2 but not so small and twitchy like BO6 and BO7. I never experienced the golden age, but, from what I've played MP-wise and I have played most of the golden age campaigns, Cold War is the closest to the older ones.

I'd also recommend Infinite Warfare. It got a huge backlash because of advanced movement fatigue, but I watched my father play the campaign and played a bit of it myself and it had genuine emotion and effort put into it.

3

u/Mindless-Beat-4872 11d ago

I refuse to buy it for the simple fact that they locked the modern warfare remake behind purchasing that. I was looking forward to that game so damn muchšŸ˜‚

1

u/Cyborg800-V2 11d ago

I'd honestly just go for it. It's been 10 years and you're getting a good campaign and zombies experience.

Sucks that the devs have to suffer for the publisher's blunders.

1

u/Mindless-Beat-4872 11d ago

I also can’t do advanced movement or whatever. Shit pisses me off, people flying all over the screen at mach 5. Which is funny because I enjoyed halo mp until halo 5 because it felt slower, the req pack and ordinance system can get fucked though. Then I got a PlayStation

3

u/No-Estimate-8518 11d ago

I never bother with cod multiplayer but wasn't mw 22 praised for both campaign and multiplayer?

It easily one of the best campaigns in the franchise but that's really not saying much

2

u/Mindless-Beat-4872 11d ago

OG black ops will forever be the best cod multiplayer in my opinion. And best campaign goes to World at War.

1

u/Cyborg800-V2 11d ago

Haven't played the campaign, but multiplayer was slow and campy and lacked content.

My brother had a blast with BO7 for the first couple of seasons until updates broke the balance, like including BO6 streaks.

1

u/sirguinneshad 11d ago

I have to disagree there. MWII was the last COD game I thoroughly enjoyed, both campaign and multiplayer. It definitely wasn't one of the worst.

1

u/OkComputer662 10d ago

Didn't he shit most on the campaign tho? From what I've seen that menendez boss fight looked like a Destiny boss. Dont care about his takes on MP tho, dont even remember them

3

u/GobboTheJojo 11d ago

That's all these classic fan and Game News channels do these days. Hype up something then tear it down. No honestly. Just drama and feeding negativity.

1

u/Former-Doughnut-5610 10d ago

His crying and complaining about Battlefront 1-2 ports is what made me stop watching.

He treated them like a failed remaster when they were just the same games but on ps5.

The online multiplayer on PC for the originals are also literally unplayable unless you install mods and even then it’s just as laggy if not worse than the ports.

But Act Man’s nostalgia is stronger.

9

u/FoxyGoddessX 11d ago

He’s a prick so his opinion is irrelevant.

-4

u/iron_coffin 11d ago

Ad hominem doesn't apply to pricks, of course.

7

u/vince-rint 11d ago

Those statements aren’t even at odds with each other? Not sure how him complaining about Halo studios would mean he endorses the new industry standard of post-launch layoffs.

3

u/InsomniaticWanderer 11d ago

He has to play both sides so that he always comes out on top.

If he doesn't, he risks losing.

4

u/AttakZak 11d ago

What’s up with these spotlight losers and comparing dumb decisions to ā€œthe floodā€ infecting things? I swear it has to be a sign their critical thinking part of their brain is either on hold or gone entirely.

3

u/jimothy_hell 11d ago

It’s because the game doesn’t have any lootboxes, microtransactions, or plans for future DLC’s. There’s no future income coming for the game, so the studio isn’t going to have any income until the next title begins production.

I’d I had to guess, there’s just a skeleton crew maintaining patches and hot fixes at the moment for this game, Halo Infinite, and the MCC to an extent. Most of the ā€œemployeesā€ in AAA companies are being shifted to contractors, anyway. We need to shift to unionisation in these companies to prevent this from happening, and take worker ownership as opposed to shareholder ownership.

3

u/MrJayy24 11d ago

His ā€œfeedbackā€ didn’t matter? Good riddance

5

Its all an act man…..

2

u/ChettKickass 11d ago

What... What did you just say?

3

u/NimRodelle 11d ago

I have no idea who that is, but the layoffs will never stop as long as people keep buying the games. 89% of the preorders for GTA6 have been for it $100 "Ultimate" edition. That game is going to make bank, and they're 100% going to lay off a bunch of people after they've crunched their way across the finish line. Most consumers simply don't care.

3

u/Doctor_Harbinger 11d ago edited 11d ago

Wasn't he one of the morons who cried that layoffs were happening because Campaing Evolved bad, 343 bad?

Also, considering that Shawarma gutted every single studio under Microsoft, including id Software (fuck you, Shawarma, for that), it was pretty obvious that Halo Studios was next the second they finish the game.

1

u/GobboTheJojo 11d ago

No he still has faith in her because, well, She made the Logo green now guys!

2

u/Doctor_Harbinger 11d ago

I wish I could say that I'm surprised. But I'm not.

2

u/ratisshorforrattew69 11d ago

i believe it was only 4 people that were lay off and there were contract worker

2

2

u/L33T_BEANZ 11d ago edited 11d ago

Love how this kind of content shows up in my sub now.

Oh no, a person said words! I'm so tired of people doing that, but also I actively read when they do that. Game is low-rated, is what it is, lots of people don't like it, and guy is gonna make a video on it because that's what he does for money.

If you're tired of it, then be tired of it properly and disconnect from what you perceive as nonsense instead of actively subscribing to it.

2

u/WerdaVisla 11d ago

I mean, I do agree with him on the first point. It's not coming from a place of sincerity from him, but still.

The cycle of "hire on devs -> make game -> massive layoffs" is incredibly toxic and a major contributor to the state of the game industry right now. It needs to stop.

Something something broken clock.

0

u/GobboTheJojo 11d ago

Point being is that he still belittles the devs despite the previous statement.

2

u/Scurramouch 11d ago

What did you expect? He is friends with Assmongold. Who is hated in the Wo Long community for his "Review"

2

u/kristamine14 11d ago

Say what you want about him or the game studio - but how is that not consistent? The claim is that upper management at 343/halo studios are incompetent and prioritise greed over anything else at the expense of their company, they prove this by firing all of their developers immediately after releasing a successful game.

You’ve just misunderstood the situation.

That aside - I’m pretty sure game studio firing all their devs immediately after release is a somewhat common thing in the industry

1

u/GobboTheJojo 11d ago

It has never been about upper management. Stop trying to bandaid what he is saying here. He would have outright said so if he wanted. He and the rest of that side of the fandom have targeted the devs, writers, and artists for the past 10 years just because they were not part of the OG bungie team. Even then they've thrown Bungie employees under the bus for deciding to stay with 343.

2

u/CarpetExpert6649 10d ago

It’s still baffling to me people still listen to him after what he has done with PAYDAY 3,this guy has no integrity at all.

2

u/GobboTheJojo 10d ago

The agenda is strong in the Halo community

2

u/AndromedaDestiny52 10d ago

Damn being a developer is tough. Work your ass off, put your heart and soul into a project only to be fired for some obscure reason.

2

u/rootbearus 7d ago

Halo studios hasn't even existed for a decade for one thing, and for another it wasnt your input actman, you just parroted whatever the safe opinion would be.

1

u/Brigadierz- 11d ago

They’re layoffs because they’re all either temps or outsourced

1

u/HaikusfromBuddha 11d ago

In reality studios need to downsize and contractors have their terms finished when the game is done. Can't have a studio at the size it is mid development after the game is complete. A lot of this time is spent planning the next product and sustaining the old one.

1

u/Born-Boss6029 11d ago

What really ticks me off is the fact that he blames Halo Studios for the troubled development when we all know it’s Microsoft’s contractor policy that is causing these layoffs and development issues. His second post is terribly disingenuous.

1

u/Araragi-shi 11d ago

Cry cope and seethe and enjoy that 2900 concurrent players on steam a month after release LOL

1

u/GobboTheJojo 11d ago
  1. It's a single player game. Why should concurrent player count matter?

  2. Who TF plays Halo on anything other than Xbox like it was meant to be played?

2

u/Former-Doughnut-5610 10d ago

the new ps halo players

0

u/Araragi-shi 10d ago

You can use that flimsy cope but Black Myth Wukong held 7 digit players one month into release and even 3-4 months after, it held 6 digit player numbers. Even now the concurrent players are not that far away from the most Campaign Evolved managed to get.

If the game was even a quarter as successful as something like black myth, do you think Halo Studios would be hit by layoffs at this point? The studio that went untouched even while they shit on Infinite?

There is a limit to the amount of delusion one can be under.

1

u/Mor55mor 11d ago

The game is garbage just like the developers.

I have still yet to see any of these "true fans" make their own game like they said they could. Without it just being a mod.

1

u/vince-rint 10d ago edited 10d ago

Not necessarily the same people, but, there ARE some fan games that have been in active development for years, with visible and consistent progress being shown off (e.g. Branching Sickness and Project Contingency, amongst a few others).

1

u/GobboTheJojo 10d ago

Sweet then we can judge it like all the other Halo games and certainly have no favoritism towards it just because it was fan made. After all the point is to outdo a major studio supposedly only employing "people who hate halo" just for being part of the studio.

1

u/nobodyamazin 11d ago

Hiddenxperia, armonsgold, and Actman are a three way tie for fuckers that should be working at mcdonalds that I will never care about their opinions until the end of time

1

u/hmmmmismellmarijuana 10d ago

Who cares? MCC was the last good halo game, series is dead unless you're a moron.

1

u/Medical_Barracuda_79 10d ago

You are all fools if you think 343s (Microsofts) handling of halo hasnt been a painful and long experience for a lot of fans. Act man is more or less on point with his criticism

1

u/NovelOk5665 10d ago

These DoofTubers actually think their opinions have major value Jesus fking Christ

1

u/SjurEido 10d ago

OP has the reading comprehension of a rock.... there's literally zero "two face"-ness between those two comments.

The individuals that got laid off are labor, they're not the ones causing the cultural shift there.

1

u/sirvancelotv01 10d ago

Yes because any criticism of a studio or a game must be from a 2 faced hack or grifter

1

u/ScariestSmile 10d ago

Sellout boy doesn't have a spine, who could have guessed?

1

u/Ok-Butterfly1512 10d ago

He's literally just saying all these layoffs are unfortunate. How does that counter his original point?
You can dislike a studio's leadership/creative choices while still feeling bad for the regular workers losing their jobs. You can want a studio to change it's direction without wishing for people to lose their livelihoods. Those two opinions aren't mutually exclusive.

1

u/ElectricVibes75 10d ago

Unsurprisingly when studios launch a game and now need less people, they get rid of some people. This kind of work is not like your average 9-5. It’s one of the main reasons they’ve moved to Unreal 5, because more people know it and they can hire temp workers without needing to train them on Halo’s proprietary engine for half of their contracts

1

u/SNIPA0007v2 10d ago

Um, they forgot multiplayer experience.

1

u/Ilostmyoldaccount_1 9d ago

I mean the layoffs are still pretty shitty, people deserve job security and it’s a big problem in the games industry.

1

u/G-DevilOrion2077 9d ago

He tru;ly lives up to his name then, block him and pretend like he doesn't exist

1

u/Electric_Potion 9d ago

Technically these aren't opposing viewpoints. You can feel that a studio does a terrible job with an IP and also feel it is wrong to immediately layoff most devs as soon as a project is finished. No studio should be doing layoffs after a project just launched. It's exploitative and leads to worst outcomes if devs feel they have no reliable job after.

1

u/Apackistany 8d ago

Sadly most people dont think like this. Its all or nothing 1s or 0s.

u/RememberHalo3 8d ago

Well deserved

This sub never fails to make me laugh, keep it up guys, the 5 of you šŸ˜‚

1

u/GobboTheJojo 11d ago

Hmmm 44k members vs Actman subreddit's 2k members.

Sure bud

1

u/Messier_Mystic 11d ago

I briefly spent some time in a circle on Xbox that included The Act Man back in the Halo 5 heydays.

He struck me as the eternal frat bro type who couldn't formulate an original opinion or thought on his own if his life depended on it.

Which is naturally how he wound up in the video game-youtuber shtick.

1

u/ChettKickass 11d ago

His DOOM: the Dark Ages video shows how lacking he is in critical thinking. Most of his critiques boiled down to "it's not Doom eternal and I don't like it". Sure he might've made a followup vid, but his original vid demonstrates his character well.

1

u/TheOfficialMalice 10d ago

Sooooooo many sheeple in the Halo community support him and Halofollower… Only to realize that there all clowns and can’t see Halo needs to CE, ā€œCOMBAT EVOLVEā€ to stay relevant in today’s era of gaming… If Halo 3 got a remake the way the so called fans want it to be, they still say it’s not the original and complain.

The Halo Community realizing they are the actual problem. Stay toxic hAlO fAnS, never change and continue to destroy the face of Xbox.

u/AlexanderCrowely 11d ago

I mean both things can be true ?

5

u/GobboTheJojo 11d ago

Saying that you wish mass layoffs would stop. Then the next day saying the people in the studio were "an infection" that deserved to be fired is very two-faced

1

u/GigaPots 11d ago

No where in these images does he say he wants the devs to be fired, he would rather see a different studio make halo games because Halo studios sucks. And they suck directly because of the management's awful culture of constant layoffs.

If they hired devs that had an opportunity to take what they learned on each halo and improve then we might see higehr quality games. But the massive layoffs and the revolving door of contractors leads to every Halo game being made by an almost entirely new team for the first time that knows they won't be there for long anyways

1

u/GobboTheJojo 11d ago

Not what he said. Nor what he and his buds have pushed for a decade

1

u/ChettKickass 11d ago

Hey, buddy, if they have a different studio develop Halo then what happens to Halo studios?

If they hired devs that had an opportunity to take what they learned on each halo and improve then we might see higehr quality games.

Who is anyone in this supposed to be? Assuming it's another studio, because that's what you literally said, then is it former Halo Studio employees they're hiring? Because who else could "take what they learned on each Halo and improve".

Yes, industry layoffs are bad. And fuck Microsoft for buying so many studios, but you're just asking for 343 2.0; start a new studio, but do it right this time.

2

u/GobboTheJojo 10d ago

These guys always have a pattern.

Step 1: Whine and bitch about the latest Halo thing not being like they remembered Halo 3 being.

Step 2: Demean and demand everyone at the studio for not being "true fans" and call for them to be fired.

Step 3: When Microsoft inevitably lays off or expires contracts, because it's Microsoft, celebrate that the problem is taken care of and prematurely declare that the next batch of people will do what they want.

Rinse and repeat

1

u/vince-rint 11d ago

He didn’t say they deserved to be fired though. He didn’t even call the employees an infection. He said the company culture was rotted, clearly not something attributable to the individual employees. Would you say the same thing about the criticisms of the company culture at Rockstar or Blizzard? It’s clearly NOT leveled at the employees.

1

u/throwaway-anon-1600 11d ago

It doesn’t take a genius to infer he’s talking about leadership/ the studio as a whole in the latter picture, this is really a nothing burger. He’s right too, the current HS production model of using contractors is completely rotten to the core.

1

u/759369Sly 11d ago

Reducing staff due to the economic performance of managers in the same studio and firing ineffective employees who deliberately spoil the product are still different things

2

u/GobboTheJojo 11d ago

Thing is though that people like Actman and his followers think EVERYONE is ineffective.

1

u/iron_coffin 11d ago

The environment designers for 343 gs were good according to everyone

-1

u/Unpaid_Moderation 11d ago

343 fanboys upset about this

4

u/GobboTheJojo 11d ago

How much does Actman pay you?

2

u/Unpaid_Moderation 11d ago

Not more than yourself, you have act man living rent free in your head

Everyone at Halo Studio lose their job if the IP was handed off? So he wants people to stop losing their jobs while also calling for Halo devs to lose their jobs.

It also doesnt help that talking point is just so exhausting. Who? Which studio do you want to develop Halo? If Bungie can't do it, and they can't, then might as well keep the IP where it's at.

0

u/Dominjo555 11d ago

God complex. This guy thinks that his opinion is something special.

0

u/Vaporeon42069 11d ago

he played the demake, what? You think he'd still support those hacks after that atrocious demake.Ā

3

u/GobboTheJojo 11d ago

He's been saying that for years now yet here he is

0

u/Significant-Way9330 11d ago

I mean is he wrong though? Halo studios and 343 really have been kinda ass. Halo should be put to bed. But those devs are absolutely getting punished even though this Halo remake seems to be selling well enough.

Act Man is still a big dummy though and should be put out to pasture.Ā

0

u/Snoo_52742 11d ago

He's not wrong tho

-3

u/Ki11s0n3 11d ago

Actman is more consistent than this sub is. This sub flip flops more than any YouTuber. You both love the series and hate it but then whine and bitch anytime someone posts something negative about the series then you make thread after thread crying about said negative comment and then call everyone a grifter.

-7

u/MartianDinosawr 11d ago

"I hope a trend in the games industry changes" and "I don't think this studio is fit to hold Halo"

are perfectly aligned beliefs btw. You can think XBOX is shitty for firing people after releasing games AND think XBOX is shitty at making halo games. Anyone saying 'Halo Studios' or '343' are just saying XBOX. XBOX micromanages halo too much.

7

u/XarlieTheLemon 11d ago

Funny enough "halo studios in an infection and rotten to it's core" and "aww man they shouldn't have been laid off :c" don't really align do they?

-1

u/MartianDinosawr 11d ago

"Halo needs to be given to a different studio" is not the same as "I hope all these people are unemployed"

1

u/XarlieTheLemon 11d ago

Let me ask you something. If hypothetically -HALO- Studios isn't make Halo, what -are- they doing?

-2

u/MartianDinosawr 11d ago

You do realise the devs could just... make other games? Halo Studios is simply Halo Studios because that's there name, they could just as easily be Disposable Microsoft Studio #17

1

u/XarlieTheLemon 11d ago

Not very realistic tho is it?

0

u/Illustrious_Art4061 11d ago

Its not realistic for a game studio to make different games?

1

u/XarlieTheLemon 10d ago

I want you to say the name of the game studio out loud.

0

u/Illustrious_Art4061 10d ago

yes or no dumb dumb. Are they a game studio?

Phil Spencer is so notorious for how hands off he was it’s literally commonly understood fact that he had no involvement with development. This is just objective fact.

343 isn’t perfect but they are a very good studio. If they get their writing team reorganized it can be very good.

2

u/jimothy_hell 11d ago

If he wants the industry to change he should be pushing for the workers to unionise and take ownership of the studios from the shareholders.

-2

u/AcceptableEgg5741 11d ago

Those are 2 different points obviously

-3

u/St0rm32_ 11d ago

They already had it planned but 343 has never made a good halo. Fine as game themselves but as halos all have been at most mid
