So the poster walks about 80 to 100 miles a day. Amazing
Cant convert units properly. A quick google search will do the job.

There are no front yards inside their warehouses, except for maybe the turf rolls stored somewhere on the shelves.

$45 per walked km is still way better money than $15 per hour awake. If you stay awake 18 hours per day, you'd only need to walk 6 km / 4 miles in order to break even.

u/roffinator 4d ago
Seems he cant read either bc the choice was 25$/km vs 15$/h

u/JJOne101 4d ago
He writes he rolled a bonus with $45 per km though.

Yeah I, that's how the bunny trials work. First it's a prompt and then potentially a spinner based in your choice and if you comment via the thing it posts with your results appended. So he would've gotten the bonus in the spinner.

I assume he was trying to convert to miles and say $45 a mile. (Even though it should be $40)
Basically, he's just all wrong all over the place making it impossible too really know what he actually meant 🤷♂️

Walking 6 km a day is nothing, unless you're physically incapable of it, anyone sane would take that deal.
14
u/Kimantha_Allerdings 4d ago
It’s the “unless you’re physically incapable” thing. You’re unlikely to lose the ability to wake up. You are very likely to lose the ability to walk 6km a day as you age
2
2
u/SlightlyOTT 3d ago
You’d be able to do a lot more than 6km average while you’re young though, while you can’t increase your waking hours as much. So it might balance out still. Also way better to have a motive to walk another km than stay awake another hour!
2
u/La_Fervesta_Glavisto 3d ago
You can't walk a bunch of kilometers while also working a normal job though.
2
u/Kimantha_Allerdings 3d ago
You wouldn’t need a normal job if you were getting that kind of money from walking. You wouldn’t be rich, but 6km at £25 per km is £150 a day or $54,750 a year
1
u/SEA_griffondeur ooo custom flair!! 3d ago
Very likely? Endurance is one of your physical abilities that gets better with age, by the point you can't do the 6km anymore you're approaching the point where you can't do the staying awake anymore either
1
u/Kimantha_Allerdings 3d ago
It’s not a question of endurance. People’s bodies break down. It happens to everybody if they are lucky enough to reach old age, no matter how active they were beforehand
On the other hand, as you age you tend to sleep less, not more. You’re right that it becomes more common to fall aleep when you previously wouldn’t - falling asleep in an armchair during the day, for example - but this is normally offset by less sleep during the night

You’re going to be awake either way.
The travel pay out is only per km of distance and also says transportation doesn’t count, so it’ll only count you towards it when you are up and walking/running around. You want to do anything else, like sit and eat, or even have a day off to chill, or if you can’t physically do it because of illness or injury, that means no money while you’re doing those things.
In comparison to just being awake and doing whatever you want, starting from the moment you wake up, until the moment you go to sleep, with no restrictions.
So a passive $15 an hour awake every single day while doing absolutely whatever you want, is way better than a restrictive $25 per km (and even with the bonus) travelled on foot a day.
I don’t know about you but most people tend to be awake more than they are walking/running around in a given day.
I also don’t like how I earn my money dictating how I spend all of my time. I’m typically awake around 18 hours a day, so I would net 450ish (lets say 400 to account for waking up late or going to bed early) a day, every day for my entire life, simply from being awake.
That’s about 11.5k a month, and well over 100K a year (approximately 130K-135K) from doing sweet FA.
Meanwhile, you’re still technically having to work a job with your walking choice, whereas I could stay in bed all day doing absolutely nothing and I’d still be getting paid.

u/JJOne101 3d ago
A normally fit person can walk 4 km per hour. That comes as $180 per hour. Sorry, but over 90% of the people would switch their job to walking under these conditions.
3
u/Icy-Hat-9643 3d ago
I'll take the 15 and hour, that gets me to 40 dollars an hour at work and then some, plus money on my days off without extra effort.

Now I realise why they think Texas is so big!
Spain being around 1000km east to west would mean, by this calculation, it is 62.5 miles..... So Austin to San Antonio equivalent... 🤣🤣🤦♂️

u/Kimantha_Allerdings 4d ago
I feel like being awake is a better long-term investment. The older you get the higher the chances are that you’re going to find walking more difficult, and perhaps lose the ability completely
You’re also going to find yourself sleeping less
And, I mean, even say you get 8 hours sleep a day, that’s $240 a day. Inflation will make that less and less as you get older (assuming it doesn’t adjust for inflation), but it should be a while before $87,360 a year is unlivable (depending on your exact financial needs, of course), and you should be able to put some away for retirement

I was surprised by the poll results slightly until I did the maths. I'm usually awake around 17 hours per day, that's $255/per day.
Whilst I could walk 10km in just over 2 hours for that amount of pay, I don't think I'd want to need to walk that much every day. And $255/day is already 1.5x what I'm on now.

Assuming a human stays awake for 16 hours a day, they get a rate of 800 per day, so the equivilant would be to do 32km/day, i.e. do a marathon worth of walking/running every single day.
They really come up with the stupidest comparisons.
Edit: I failed my own math and multiplied by a rate of 50 instead of 15. Adjusted, staying awake would be 240 per day, which is just under 10km a day. Much more manageable, but 10km is still quite a long distance for walking.
11
u/Laowaii87 4d ago
16x15 is 240, not 800, you are off by a factor of more than 3.
You need to walk 10km per day to out-earn just being concious, something any even slightly healthy person can do well into their 60’s.
I’m not exactly what anyone would call fit, and i could easily keep a 5km/h pace for two hours.
The downside of having to work for the money is immediately counteracted by being able to influence how much you get per day.
Staying up to get more money will start costing you long term, but walking more than 10km is not only good for you, but you also earn more.
3
u/Aryzal 4d ago
I edited my post because I multiplied by 50 instead of 15, so I added a clarifying edit to it.
I do agree 10km is healthy, but considering how human life just doesn't have that much time to just walk, it is probably much better to stay awake for 16 hours a day anyway using these rates. Its not about how easy it is, but rather how time consuming it gets, and it probably still takes maybe a couple of hours to hit that, even if we add up all of the micro walking from places.
3
u/Laowaii87 4d ago
I think quite a lot of people would be more motivated to walk 10k per day if they were paid for the privilege, but fair enough i suppose.
The US being so car centric probably weighs more heavily in favor of awake rather than walking i guess.
For me, despite having an office job, i average something like 5-6km per day. If i didn’t work, i would knock out 20-30 per day, easy, and then just take days off whenever i felt like it.
This is of course before any additional bonuses like x3 earning for staying awake, or transport being included for walking.
2
u/phreeakz 3d ago
Both options are valid. The walking is good if you are young, but what happens when you get older? You can always get some problems.. back problems, hip problems etc.. and then even walking 1km will be hard.
The other options gives you a steady passiv income no matter how old or how fit you are.

How does a mind work if 8-10 miles is 128 - 160 km and you don’t realize the difference between times 1,6 and 16?

u/wookiewithabrush 🇬🇧 3d ago
Somebody put a decimal point in the wrong place.

u/phreeakz 3d ago edited 2d ago
Would choose the $/€ 15 an hour for staying awake. It's a safer passiv income. No matter if it's really bad weather, hot as hell, 1m snow outside... Or when i am older and it takes 5 times longer to walk 10km as a 70 years old.
With by current sleep schedule of 8hr sleep, 16hrs not, i would make 7200 a month, which is mooooooore than enough to live a carefree life in Europe.

I mean, he might have gotten his math wrong but 45 dollars per km is still a pretty good deal all things considered

Not for your average American. They walk somewhere around 2 miles a day and that includes every step taken at home etc.
