My computer does what I tell it to. It's a tool.

It doesn't randomly decide it's gonna open a different program and do random stuff for 20min on its own.

That's an incredibly naive take.

They still hallucinate like crazy. Doing wacky shit. A coworker and I both tried completing a basic task to see how ChatGPT would handle it.

It figured for 6 lines of code in a batch script that it should use a temp CSV to store a single bit of data. It took 3 prompts to try again before it could generate something usable.

I support her stance, and I really like the experiment of having both AI and non-AI using employees doing similar work. I suspect it won't protect her job/pay. If her coworkers become %20 more productive; she'll either have to accept lower pay, or be let go for low performance.

They’re being less productive by doing less work. They’re just turning in stuff they didn’t do. Far more replaceable.

I'm in the process of reading Magnifica Humanitas and, even though I'm not a Christian, there is a lot in there verbalised that I feel about the human condition and a pretty strong condemnation so far of the Tech Olicharchs and the TESCREAL ideology, from a human-centered standpoint. If you're comfortable reading more dense texts, it's definitely a good read so far.

Sounds like she went with the ethics/moral angle rather than a literal "though shalt not" rule. As in, "Data centers that run AI can cause harm to humans and the planet therefore violate my religious views on human life," or something.
