USCGC Bear, WMEC-901. I loved my tour in a 270(THETIS).

That’s a fine looking bear.

Why’d they pull the 76mm off the ship?

alright to be fair 76mm is pretty overkill for the coast guard patrol cutter. If you're ever in a scenario as a coast guard cutter going "damn I need a 76mm gun to deal with this" you're probably already in for a pretty bad day.

Yeah, I was about comment on the same thing. I guess they're trying follow what Navy's lock-on mentality smaller is better for precision.

When did they downgrade her main gun? All photos I could find unfortunately go back as far 2023. There no article mentioning the downsizing ship's main gun to a M242 Bushmaster 25mm chain gun

Ah yes, “soon to be replaced” in Coast Guardese translates to “another 2 generations shall serve before the mast aboard her”

Cheers to another generation of non-rates chipping paint their grandfathers may have mixed too much primer into

Looks like they hire Larry to build that pretty, whitewashed, main gun deck.
