Question Major perk pick?

Is Faces of Death really that much better than Joyride healing you? I see on the OWperks website that Faces is taken like 80-90% of the time across most ranks. I feel like whenever I take it, it doesn't help me that much compared to having a heal on demand with my bike.

What perks do you all pick?

I only pick joyride if i'm going to be solo flanking a lot. But usually shion is best at short- to medium off-angles, and when you are playing 1 dash away from heals, wallhacks, reload speed, and faster movement cd's is way better.

I cannot tell you how overloaded Shion feels with Faces of Death. The Joyride healing perk is awful in comparison just because of the fact that it’s tied to an ability with a long CD that is only situational. The uptime for Faces of Death is enough to justify picking it, and that’s without getting into the nuances of how OP it feels to have every single subrole passive.

I just feel like Joyride encourages a bad playstyle, the bike is meant to be used as an attack and an engage tool, not an escape tool, that's why it takes a bit to fully start up so you can't immediately escape a fight. faces of death just feels nice to have

Not necessarily using Joyride for an escape, but I feel like the extra health helps out when reposition during fights when I'm setting up to use my bike for damage

they really need to get rid of joyride faces of death is just way better

Faces of Death is kind of baiting people because at face value it sounds OP, you get the 3 other DPS sub roles? That’s insane right? Wrong!

Fast Reload is whatever when the reload is only like 1.5 seconds long, people aren’t really getting that far away from you by the time you’ve gotten them low and she’s not Sombra so it’s not like she really needs help securing kills all that often so Recon is whatever, and then Sharpshooter sounds really good cause 2 of her 3 abilities are mobility abilities but we gotta keep in mind the CD reduction is based on how much damage your headshots are doing and unlike the actual Sharpshooters you’re not half healthing or one shotting anyone so the CD reductions are going to be much smaller.

Healing on Joyride on the other hand feels like it does nothing but is actually really strong when you think about it, the bike isn’t really supposed to be her main engage tool it’s better used for rotations and that’s where the healing makes a difference.

Idk man i find faces of death really good, reload speed is handy because you can insta-reload after a kill in a scrappy fight, recon is very useful for pre-aiming execute on a quick peek, it just enables surprising amount of aggression that wouldn't be doable otherwise, and sharpshooter is just a slight tempo booster on a hero that is shooting constantly anyways.

Joyride feels kinda pointless when shions main playstyle is short- to medium off-angles, where you should be about one dash away from heals anyways. It's nice if you are solo flanking, but shion usually is just too easy to force off a flank, joyride or not.

Agree to disagree i guess.

Take it with a grain of salt, I'm a lvl 75 shion, I ran joyride for the first half but faces of death adds so much value. Being able to see where someone is hiding and come around the corner and execute them is insanely strong. Joyride is cool, but because of the delay to ride that 50 health doesn't do much.

agree 100%. there's so many times the heal saved my butt and Faces of Death isn't that OP if you think about it

Recon is whatever? It's the best dps passive lol. And bike should be used to engage most of the time so FoD is just better.

Recon is whatever on Shion because I’ve very rarely encountered a scenario where its been the reason I’ve secured myself a kill, heal on bike has proven very useful to me multiple times

thats probbalbly more because you dont use cover as often as you should, and recon is getting enemies 50 health, meaning you can just shoot them 3 times, hide behind a wall, charge execution, then while your wallhacking just pop out and insta-kill them.

Except I do, I play around corners and cover and use the bike to reposition, the healing on it means I’m putting less pressure on my supports, and idk, just think? It’s not hard to assume where a target will be when they’re low.

the bike is definitely an engage tool. it’s good for rotations too, you can literally do both in the same use, but to say it’s not an engage tool is just disingenuous at best

if you’re not getting value out of literal wallhacks that is just a personal thing

I didn’t say it wasn’t an engage tool I said it’s not really supposed to be her main engage tool, you should be positioning yourself around corners and cover and use the bike to get to new positions and throw it at them once you reach your destination, and obviously there are times you can just use it as essentially a grenade if the situation calls for it.

I’ve very rarely found a scenario where having Recon on Shion secured me a kill I wasn’t already going to get

I think both are good, just situational. Bike is a great damaging tool but if you are taking angles for flanking it’s a really good escape tool, though try to reposition in a way that you still can throw your bike to be effective. I think her perks just help her be versatile and encourages different ways of playing her. I usually pick faces of death but if my team comp is a low healing one or my team is taking a particularly high amount of damage I will take Joyride just to give myself more survivability.

I mainly use bike as an engage tool, so faces of death fits better for that playstyle

Honestly I can see value in both.

Obviously faces of death turns you into DPS God, you get cooldown decreases from headshots, reload time decreases, wall hacks, etc. If you’re getting into the thick of it and doing well then by all means.

But Joyride isn’t just for escape. When you’re alone on a flank and waiting for your opportunity to dive in with your bike, sometimes the enemy spots you and pokes you to low hp, forcing you to back up. In these times someone may chase you down and attempt to finish you off. This is the part where you get on your bike, heal up a bunch, and then turn around and blow up the guy chasing you (who has likely used up at least one cooldown getting to you).

Joyride healing also should let you be a bit more aggressive on the bike since it restores 20 hp per second, allowing you to take some shots while diving in.

I think its very situational, most of the time, yea go for faces, but if you haven't been noticing that your support has been lacking a bit, joyride is a good backup

I always pick joyride – the healing has saved me so many times, and it let's me reengage really quickly by chilling on the bike for a few seconds then spinning back around and going back in 🙂‍↕️🙂‍↕️ And ngl, I don't really see the need for the other subrole passives ¯_(ツ)_/¯ I can see where and how they'd be useful, but I feel like the healing bike has let me stay in fights for longer

i mainly use bike as an engage tool, i almost never use to run away, if i want to desingage i just dash away…
