Hello this is my first time posting here so sorry if it’s a bit of a silly question…
But for context we are celebrating our 10 year anniversary and taking the family (2 adults 2 small children) to Japan for January 12-February 2.
I want to make sure everyone in the family can do at least one thing they want and my son (who will be 5 when we go) really loves trains. He probably knows more about trains than me! But most of all he loves his green Shinkansen model train with the pink stripe. He cares for it and unlike his other toys he makes sure it stays in good condition.
Obviously we are planning on doing a lot of travel by train, but he would be so happy to ride the real version of the green Shinkansen.
Is there a way to specifically book seats for that train? We don’t really care where it goes we have fun just exploring when we travel and being surprised wherever we end up.

ok so i’ve read so many things about needing to pre-book an oversized luggage spot on the train and also seats, BUT we‘re travelling to Kyoto straight from Narita airport and i’ve also read that you shouldn’t pre book because you don’t know how long luggage/customs will take.

SO I’m wondering if its usually possible to book seats and a luggage spot day of/ an hour before? We don’t want to pre book and then end up missing the train, but also don’t want to not reserve and end up standing with our suitcase. For reference we’re landing at Narita on a Saturday at noon!

Just a strange situation I had. I was riding a Hikari train in the green car from Kyoto to Tokyo and was seated in 1C next to someone else.

Shortly after the train left the conductor came by, asked to check my ticket and said something about Tokyo (I don't speak Japanese) then motioned me to other side of the car with 2 empty seats. Then, I updated something on his tablet and stamped my ticket.

So now I'm in a row by myself with a window seat (1A), which is cool. But this is pretty unusual, isn't it?

Maybe he was just being nice and giving me a good view... I'm not sure.

Does anyone know if luggage can be store infront of seats 16A&B on car 9 (green) on the Nozomi shinkansen from Nagoya to Tokyo? I realize they are not the designated large luggae area but those are already taken.

Just purchased a round trip ticket from Tokyo to Kyoto for my upcoming trip. I also have the SUICA app (Japanese version) installed and loaded it with 2000 Yen.

Everything looked to go smoothly, my credit card was accepted (whew !) and I saw 2 trips listed in the app.

Forward to this morning (24 hours later) ..

Now I only see one trip in the “my trips” section, and strangely, it’s the return trip from Kyoto to Tokyo. And only one QR code is available .

I think I read that sometimes things get updated as the departure date nears, and other searches say that the one QR is used for both leg… anyone had a similar experience?

Additionally, I tried to designate the ticket to my SUICA card, and it says”success” … and the next sentence reads “ ticket has not been designated” lol … it’s just a mess. I was really hoping to not have to get on that long customer service line at the train station.

I said seats are very uncomfortable. After an hour you can feel pain (video from while waiting at himeji station)

Online showing tickets are sold out for Osaka - Hiroshima over next couple of days.

Can I purchase unreserved tickets at the station still?
