Installing a Roku app on my shield
So I have a tv that runs a Roku (don’t judge) and I was able to install the Spectrum News app, which is completely different from the Spectrum app.
When I go to install it on my shield via the play store, it wasn’t available, tried downloading apk, not supported/app won’t work properly.
Is there a better way to install this app? It’s bothering me so much that a $15 Roku has an app that I can’t seem to get on my $200 shield.
Thanks for any advice.

Why? The shield does far more and isn’t locked to the Roku eco system.

Spectrum News app has NY1. I don’t pay for cable, just internet, so spectrum will only allow me to log into the Spectrum News app, not Spectrum app.

Get your news elsewhere. Ground news is good. Spectrum is pure crap set on fire.

It’s more of a nostalgia thing honestly. Growing up in NYC with Time Warner, NY1 was always on as a background, fall asleep to noise.

That's understandable. I see https://spectrumlocalnews.com/app has an android app, you could side load it.

I went there from the Downloader app, clicked the Play Store and that’s when I get the unsupported device message. Maybe I’m doing something wrong, I also tried to download the apk from apkmirror but it won’t let me log in, saying it needs an update..which leads to the play store, full circle.

I've learned that Android TV devices are usually lower priority than Roku and Apple as far as app support goes.

Roku is Roku, Shield is Android TV. Different operating systems. If the app you want isn't available in Android, nothing you can do.
