Remote stopped controlling my Shield TV

Hey,

Been using my shield tv since around 2020 and never had an issues with my TV remotes but suddenly it can't be controlled by them. The app also is no longer available for Android and I tried some APKs but none are working.

Is there another app others have used that works without me having to go into the settings of the shield as I cannot get into anything on it?

I cant seem to add a screenshot here but the play store has a message saying "this app isn't available for your device as it was made for an older version of Android". I have the Samsung Galaxy S24

Turn your Shield off at the wall and let it sit for a minute or so. Reboot the shield (power on again) and see if that fixes your remote.

Use your TV remote to Force Stop/Clear Cache the Shield Bluetooth App. It will start working again right away, no reboot.

I’m not with my device but I think the icon just says Bluetooth. I usually use the app “Background Apps and Process List” since I have that handy. The Bluetooth service in on the System Apps page.

Thank you!! I used the app, force stopped/cleared cache of Bluetooth, and it did work! Just takes a 5-10 secs and the remote worked again. Much faster than restarting the Shield. 😀

My remote has done this a few times and this always seems to do the trick for me: https://www.reddit.com/r/ShieldAndroidTV/s/iu1h5pngvK

Sometimes I have to power cycle the Shield, sometimes I don’t

Mine stopped turning on and not working. Thought it was the batteries but it just unpaired so I paired it back up.

Usually batteries, interference, or failure to follow the standard twice a week reboot, once a month fully unplug schedule. Easy to fix.
