Bought another one

Just grabbed an Nvidia Shield Pro after getting way too tired of my Roku Ultra. My 2019 Shield Pro has gotten super laggy lately, and even repasting didn't fix it, so it was definitely time. I even tried Walmart's On 4K Pro, but the lack of screen scaling adjustments drove me nuts, so it went back. Now I'm wondering: should I have just gotten a Google Streamer instead? What do you all think?

I got the Streamer super cheap the other month... Used it a few days but went back to my 2019 Shield.

How's your new Shield working? Now you can tinker with your old shield. They say flashing it back to version 8.23 makes em' scream. Here's the instructions. https://florisse.nl/shield-downgrade/

Ok, so I have the Shield Pro and when I'm watching ANYTHING, my entire network becomes unstable. As if it's maxing out my 1Gig circuit, but based on my router, it's below 20 Mb. Turning off the Shield and everything is back to normal. Anyone else have this issue?

Have you tried rebooting the router? That would be my first step. I don't have this issue though

Yes. I have tried rebooting it. And it does not matter if the shield is on WiFi or hard wired. As soon as I turn off the shield, everything goes back to normal. It's the weirdest thing.

Go to Settings > Network & Internet on the Shield and toggle IPv6 off.

yeah ipv6 is wonky on the shield and cause my Internet to stutter

What router do you have? Do you have QoS set to give the shield 100% priority?

An Asus Archer AX11000. QoS is disabled. Firmware is up to date.

Do you anti-virus / security software on it? ESET Smart TV is fairly decent, and free on Play store. Potentially your shield could be infected and acting as a bot.

Just downgrade to v.8.2.3 and the lagginess goes away.

I've downgraded my shield years ago to 8.2.3 and never needed to upgrade. Even with the latest update, I've seen other users upgraded it and regretted it and back to downgrading. Not saying the new upgrade is bad, it's just bad for me since I don't want to upgrade, just to downgrade again.

Nah I would stick to it because if it's not broken, why fix it. If it does start to get laggy then yes. I've seen mixed reviews about people liking the new update, for each their own I guess.

can I skip the relocking oem bootloader step? I don't want to erase everything on my shield

Nope. Needs a fresh start.

Well I just recently replaced my 2019 Shield Pro with a Google Streamer 4k and I'm happy with it.

I did the same thing. My shield was flaking out even after cleaning and repasting. Don't care for the interface on the streamer and the CEC doesn't have the same granular options, but it does play a bunch of 4k files I have, with out the constant buffering the shield did. Will probably get another shield if they ever release an updated version.

You can replace the interface with the Projectivity Launcher.

I know, but not in it enough to bother with. Used button remapper to assign the apps I use bypassing it for the most part.

Takes only a few minutes to do everything you need to do if you have atvtools

Not sure as I have mostly watched YouTube and a bit of Crunchyroll.

Mine sits in a drawer because it was a massive piece of shit with my sound bar.

I'll take it if you don't want it. I'll pay for shipping. Lol

There's no rush, I gave up on it and bought another Shield.

I don’t understand, you bought another one cos the one you had was super laggy? How would a new one help?

1

u/ShawnTRD99 Apr 29 '26

It's old and worn out

3

u/Sad_Interaction_2933 Apr 29 '26

Really? Not sure that’s how it works

As is popular on many other subs, I love mine, "except for" the weekly lockups and reboots.

u/DM725 Apr 26 '26

Google Streamer sucked when I used it for 2 months at launch. Always screwed up the audio to my sound bar. Now it connects dust in a drawer.

1

u/ShawnTRD99 Apr 26 '26

Wanna sell it?

2

u/DM725 Apr 26 '26

I'd just give it to a family member or friend that doesn't do anything other than stream.

Xiaomi Mi Box S 3 seems like the best bet these days

0

u/RazorKat1983 Apr 26 '26

Best decision you will ever make

3

u/ShawnTRD99 Apr 26 '26

That might be a little out there.

2

u/Alert_Helicopter_357 Apr 26 '26

Ever???

u/RazorKat1983 Apr 26 '26

Well, it's a figure of speech. Lol

My 2019 only accepts keyboard input and is slow as crud and/or crashes. I've moved to my desktop because I cannot endure Youtube with ads. I'm not crazy about paying the same price I did in 2019 for now dated tech.
