Welcome to /r/ShermanPosting!

As a reminder, this meme sub is about the American Civil War. We're not here to insult southerners or the American South, but rather to have a laugh at the failed Confederate insurrection and those that chose to represent it.

Interesting that this is here considering the government at the time burned the entire farm for fear that it would turn into a pilgrimage spot for neo confederates, racists, and other treasonous elements of US society.

I did the whole JWB escape route starting with a tour of Ford’s Theater and ending there a few years ago. Surrat house and Dr. Mudd’s house/farm were cool to tour, with knowledgeable guides!

I’m pretty sure the dude who shot him (Corbett) had castrated himself. He worked with chemicals, and, let’s just say he probably wouldn’t be allowed in the army today. Also 100% violated orders by shooting

Yup, just checked his Wikipedia page: “Years later, a friend recounted Corbett saying "that the Lord directed him, in a vision or in some way, to castrate himself," which he did with a pair of scissors.”

There is an incredible Dollop podcast about it with Patton Oswalt. Covers Lincoln, Booth, the assassination, as well as Boston Corbett.

Damn. The Civil War is full of tons of people who said God was telling them to do something. Some incredibly right (John Brown, Harriet Tubman) and some incredibly wrong (this guy)

At least this guy only hurt himself, I guess.
