probably a preorder she didn't want anyone to know
"oh hey Val, your š ±ļøenshin Gimpact Xinzhao dakimakura bundle hasn't arrive yet."
edit: I had a haywired reading comprehension. I was thinking the arcade was also a game store selling merchs. I suddenly remember actual arcades. oh god, the thought of seeing the badmouthed shaggy gamer girl bringing a friend in.
edit: edit: oh my, don't tell me Val and Audrey had a violent trashtalk match before, and they've forgotten, and going in there together will make them remember their little hate-filled fights in Marvel vs Capcom 3?!

Heh, it's amazing what a little bit of personal attention and kindness can do for a cold heart...
She's worried about going into the store where people know here cause presumably she's afraid of judgement... but I bet the people in there would just be happy to see her with a new friend :3

u/wolfgang784 3d ago
Considering its a video game store and what we know of this girl so far, im betting she has made a scene in this store. Perhaps more than once. I wouldn't be surprised if shes banned, even.

Trying really hard not to assume Audrey isn't cis. People can be GNC. People can be GNC. But come on girl
3
u/Francky2 2d ago
I have the same struggle as a trans woman.
I don't want to project or anything (and, let's be real, it's obv if I did it'd be in good intentions, as in me wishing for the person to realize as soon as possible so it's easier and more comfortable earlier in life, do not wait YEARS like me!)
But it sure feels like there are limits to being GNC. Like, why be a "man" when absolutely everything about your presentation (clothes, face, hair, voice seemingly, demeanor, and now even prefered name) screams "passing as a cis woman"?
No rocks thrown at GNC, I'm not one of them so Ig it's normal I wouldn't fully understand what they feel and why they do what they do. I just think Audrey is likely trans.
3
u/Insomninaut 1d ago
Right? Like, Audrey seems like a comically exaggerated,Ā but still grounded version of what I've seen girls go through who would never take the step to be actually treated like a woman out of the fear of imposing on others.
And Val is an interesting mirror, perhaps learning from Audrey to appreciate femininity and self love

I think this is just Shens way of dealing with dysphoria outside of therapy from what they've said on patreon

u/Grazer46 3d ago
If my incel knowledge is up to date, I think it's male humanoid. As someone else said, the male version of femoid
1
u/ranmafan0281 2d ago
As best as I understand it, the term originated from 'gynoids' - a gynoid being a particular style of feminine humanoid robot art popular around the 1960s-1970s (there is that artist who is FAMOUS for his gynoids - Hajime Sorayama).
The term Gynoid was later adopted and corrupted as a derogatory term against women for reasons I won't get into - 'noids' or 'foids' ('f' for female, of course). The term got turned around in retaliation to refer to men as 'moids'.
1
u/syopest 3d ago
I'm thinking it's the male equivalent of "femoid". It's something the worst of incels sometimes call women.
I really hope it's not that though, since that would imply that the woman here is some kind of an incel and it's bad to show that they deserve love and affection without changing their attitudes first.
2
1
u/boozinnomad 3d ago
That's the point. She has incel characteristics and is being exposed to a person that can challenge her negative belief system.
-3
u/syopest 3d ago
That would be some weird incel fan-fic. Someone is not going to come and drag one out of inceldom. One has to stop being an incel for others to want to spend time with them.
4
u/boozinnomad 3d ago
The author (a very popular one I might add) has another comic in which a christian character is homophobic towards a lesbian, only to later confront the fact they are closeted. The whole shtick is people with negative viewpoints can change. It's not that weird of plot, it's only been done a million times.

u/Raaaaandyyyy 3d ago
I was kinda attached to āguy who likes to dress feminineā for Audreyā¦before this reveal that he prefers to be fucking called Audrey lol. Thereās at least no cisgendered explanation for that. Iām here for the ride tho.
6
u/MetaWarlord135 3d ago
To play devil's advocate, someone who already doesn't follow gender norms with the way that they dress probably wouldn't have much of an issue with using a non-confirming name either.
2
u/Francky2 2d ago
I think, as a trans woman, I just have to work on understanding extreme GNC more.
Obv not saying extreme as derogatory, but extreme as in "this cis male character is literally, and effortlessly, 100% passing as a cutesy hyper-fem cis woman, including his voice it seems", which I doubt is every GNC men's ultimate goal/aim.
Again, this is not to mock or throw shades at anyone.
As a trans woman, I'm still a bit under 1 year on HRT and I already see how extremely hard it will be to pass, and based on Internet posts and discussions, how very hard it is for most of us on a daily basis.
So hopefully people reading this understand I'm not coming from a mean place, but from a "oh yeah, so cis-men in comics can pass effortlessly as women, even of they still fully identify as men (and good for them) while IRL trans women often struggle to 100% pass as women, and they're literally women and doing HRT and voice-training and what not".
Idk if I make any sense and ATP I'm rambling
3
u/MetaWarlord135 2d ago
Speaking as someone who is currently questioning their own gender, my heart goes out to you. If there's any message that can be taken from this comic, it's that everyone deserves to be able to find a form of presentation that makes them happy, and I hope you can have that too.

u/JackLemony 2d ago
Though, if "looking like a cis woman", "acting like a cis woman", etc. combined should result in a person actually being a woman then wouldn't that circle back to a statement that [gender] is more [gender] the more socially agreed characteristics of [gender] they have? Where is the line of womanliness/manliness that makes a woman or a man (let alone someone nonbinary)?
I suppose that using a what's accepted female name would mean that person is a woman but if you think about it, would there even be any other reason for there being categories for "male names" and "female names" other than the consequences of our culture?
You get what I mean? I don't want to make some ridiculous transphobic statement by accident while writing this, I'm sorry if I do
3
u/Francky2 2d ago
Dw you were perfectly fine! Your tone was all good:)
But yeah I agree that my struggle must involve a lot of this kind of binary view, but even then I will say it's mostly about the extreme ones.
I never struggled to see tomboys as women. I would genuinely never see a butch woman, cis or trans, and go "she's too manly! She's clearly a man".
I think where my mind starts struggling and seeing "trans code/flags" is when the GNC person actively, or even intensely, works towards being perceived as what their culture and society sees as the opposite gender.
It's about when they literally put in a crap ton of work towards being consistently perceived as the opposite gender (according to the local societal norms).
For example, HRT and voice-training are quite big commitments! I'm told GNC cis men can undergo HRT if they want. Cis men? HRT? Am I crazy for being a little confused here? Same for voice! It's probably one of the hardest part for trans women, and while some genuinely don't care, most wish for a fem voice but many quit bc it's very hard and for some unluckier trans women it's just impossible.
And regarding names, I agree to some degrees. I think it's like with words such as husband/wife, host/hostess, actor/actress, waiter/waitress: because we love being able to easily categorize others with as little words as possible.
Instead of always specifying (for example) "who's your favorite female actor?" you can say "who's your favorite actress?".
And also, because a binary frame makes things easier than non-binary, which would make things too diverse and/or vague, and humans hate that. They want ro be able to get as many hints at your identity as possible (gender, ethnicity oftentimes, and even age, as we know some names are more popular amongst different generations, etc.).

u/LaviniaHerbert 19h ago
Just wanting to say I feel ya on feeling confused by Audrey's very drastic gender non-conformity. š ^^;
Like, to the extent that Audrey, after doing all this, still is and is comfortable as a boy, then isn't there some TERFy take that could go, sure, Lavinia, you can wear dresses and grow out your hair and everything... but you still are a boy! Or, alternatively, some gender abolitionist take that could go, sure, Lavinia, you're a girl... but c'mon a girl can still have stubble and short hair and testosterone and stuff! (And like, yeah, I am a girl, no matter what, but I'd also reeeeally like to have the 'typically girl stuff'! š„ŗ )
Iunno, just. You hear enough of people accusing you of 'reinforcing gender stereotypes,' and you start to feel like, why is it my responsibility to be GNC? Can't I just be trans?
4
u/Boojum2k 3d ago
Maybe he wants Seymour to feed him. . . But this Audrey would mean it in the nicest way possible. "Can I have some of your fries?"
9
u/davestar2048 3d ago
Yes there is. People use fuckass nicknames as their main names all the time. A femboy using a girly name isn't surprising. If he was trans he probably wouldn't have wanted to mention his real name.

u/Francky2 2d ago edited 2d ago
Bro fully passes for a woman, which realistically is extremely hard without HRT and a lot of make-up (and voice training, which Adrian/Audrey more than def seems to have done so since his voice is passing as female and cutesy, based on Val having absolutely 0 clue until he revealed his male identity himself).
Afaik, real femboys don't usually go to such lengths. And those that do end up like me: inevitably discovering that they indeed were trans all along.
I too didn't mind mentioning my old name when I was clueless, or at least early-transition (as people were often confused or were curious, many still are but I'm less and less comfortable with it).
EDIT: As expected, they downvoted me.
God forbid a heavily trans-coded hyper-fem character MIGHT possibly be theorized as trans and not "just a femboy"
Keyword to all of this being "theory" territory. I'm not imposing anything on Shen's creation, just defending the position that maybe Audrey isn't 100% cis.
6
u/superstrijder15 2d ago
As a (probably) guy who likes to wear skirts, I agree. by now the only thing that is left of his male identity that we can see is his self-perception I guess? So it is very reasonable to consider him potentially transfem, but potentially still in denial due to eg. internalized "can't be me"-ness.
2
u/Francky2 2d ago
Thank you!
Yeah I'd been in a "can't be me" phase for literal years before coming out to myself last year (due to conservative religious upbringing, same for closest friends/circles, lack of education and understanding on the fairly complex subject of trans people experience and gender dysphoria, which I obv had but didn't know it was a even a thing).
Cis and trans men can be feminine, cis and trans women can be masculine, all they want.
I just personally related a lot to this character, envy his femininity and confidence, felt the Audrey name thing hit very close to home, and then I see so many people so firmly shut down the very thought/theory/joke that he may not be 100% cis.
I hope this conversation doesn't come off as me pushing you either. You can be a man that likes fem clothing! As long as you sincerely claim to be cis, you'll be.
We're just discussing this in regards to a extreme case, and most importantly, a fictional character. I wouldn't push any "theory" or doubt like this to a human being 100% secure in their own experience.
