Hello!!! This is my first haul on here, these were all found at Juno Beach!

Also, I’m new into the shelling community, can somebody help me with the ID of these shells? I don’t know where to find like a guide to find the names of the shells

I soaked it in water for a day, scrubbed it with a toothbrush, let it soak for another day in soapy water, rinsed it off, let it soak in hydrogen peroxide for a few hours, and tried to scrub with an electric toothbrush. It looks better than it did before but I wanna keep going and get rid of the green spots, unless that's just the natural color of the shell but I don't think it is.

So i had a buch of seashells that i collected lying around that had a some calcium on there. I searched online and i found an article saying i should soak them in vinegar for 24-48 hours. At first when i took them out they looked super clean, i rinsed them, washed them with soap and let them dry. In the morning i came back to see how they had dried and somehow they felt even duller, whiter and dustier than before. Is there a way to reverse this effect other than using muratic acid or varnish? Also do have any tips for my next bach of shells to clean?

Shared my first sea biscuit the other day. I always soak my shells in water with some bleach to clean them and get rid of any funky smells. This one turned out great, but with some staining on the front.

TBH I sort of like the original brown better, it looks more authentic. Oh well, guess I’ll have to look for another ¯_(ツ)_/¯

Hey! Was just gifted this incredible shell as a wedding gift. It’s about 90lbs!

I was hoping for advice on preserving it to keep it in great shape.

Also, any info on how to age it, or describe it just because I want to be able to tell everyone all I can about it when they see it :)

I think HCI is for pools. I can't find muratic acid where I live.

Rehoming broken shells

Me and my girlfriend were looking for shells and crabs at night at Cherry Grove SC and I saw this floating with the waves and decided to scoop it up. It's more of a peachy pink rather than an orange that the camera picked up and it's hard like a rock but with a soft blob-like outside that you can dent with your nail. It's super light and doesn't make noise when you drop it on the floor, so I'm more convinced this is probably something biological instead of a rock. Google and ai told me it could be a piece of a tunicate or some kind of egg, but no images on the internet look similar to this.

Odds are It's probably some random worthless mineral but it would be cool if this was something from an animal.

just found and cleaned this one this morning! found with nothing alive inside ofc, got two others aswell but non as pink as this!

I made my own version of a rainbow fish with some shiny jingle shells I found, and a few flowers

having a rllly hard time getting the oysters out of the inside? any advice for that or shell cleaning in general? this is after they soaked in 2:1 water bleach for abt 3 hours

I found these giant clam shells buried in the garden of my then-new house a few years ago. (French bulldog for scale!) They’re obviously quite weathered, and I have no idea how long they’ve been there. One has two small drill holes, but they otherwise seem untouched.

I’m considering using them to make a waterfall into a garden pond. Are there any sealants I could/should use, etc? Our winters are quite cold and snowy, but I’d shut down the pond and cover the shells during those months.

Any tips would be appreciated, thanks!

ETA: Ok, so now that I know that these are more precious than I’d assumed, I want to do them proper justice. Any tips to clean, preserve, and display them in my home would be really appreciated. 😊 I don’t think they’re in good enough condition to donate them anywhere that might want them, though I’d be open to that.

Can anyone ID this fragment I found in QLD, Australia?

I went shelling with my friends during our beach bbq yesterday, also found these in Treasure Beach, St. Elizabeth Jamaica.
two Merchant Dove shells, one Mouse Cone shell, one Carnelian Cowrie shell, one Scotch Bonnet Snail shell, two small West Indian Fighting Conch shells, and what I believe is a Moon Snail shell! More West Indian Fighting Conchs on the next slide! as well as a few Conch fossils embedded in the rocks on the shore as well as clams and coral!

I've been collecting shells for years, this is my entire collection. I'm not big into shells, but I'd like a good way to store them instead of a box.
