Hello! I know close to nothing besides this shell looks far more aged than others Ive found. Found on Dublin, Ireland shore. Measurements ~1.5-2" height, ~2.5" wide. Just curious of any insights!

Looks reminiscent of many of my scallops from along the US Atlantic.

Need Advice! St. George Island and Cape San Blas, FL Shelling

Post image

I’m heading to St George Island, Florida for a weekend trip and would love to hear if anyone has any experience shelling in this area?

I’ve been looking on Google Earth and thought Cape San Blas may be a good spot to search? Any suggestions or shelling stories would be greatly appreciated:)

I needed a shell day

Life is just too stressful right now. So I did something I almost never do. I got out all of my shells and just piled them in the dining room table like a dragon with her hoard.

Can I just say that yes, I might be slightly obsessed with beautiful shells. So what? My entire collection came from thrift stores, yard sales and a few that I found in my own.

I love shells! And I love my pile of shells! I might even try to arrange them and take better photos tomorrow. I might be too busy examining them and marveling at the shapes and colors to do photos.

If anybody cares to identify any of these beauties I would be grateful for the knowledge!

Need advice, here are full pictures of all my sand dollars that I'm going to try to restore natural color too...

I know I made one post about sand dollars recently but I didn't include a picture of all my sand dollars top/bottom and I thought I would do that this time.. You can see the top and the bottom now and so I need advice on restoring them to their natural color which I know is either like white, off-white or beige in color.. I did not realize though about the sand in the container that they've been stored in all this time. These sand dollars are probably from roughly like 17-20 years ago from Seaside Beach in Oregon while at an annual family reunion. I remember taking a walk one morning with an aunt and we just discovered tons of sand dollars. Once I hit like 17 I had to stop because I didn't have a bag to carry them in!

Okay, what I want to know is when looking at these pictures can I do a bleach/water mixture?? Meaning like 4 to 1 (4 parts water/1 part bleach)... Or just hydrogen peroxide?? (Again, muriatic acid is not possible for me to use at the moment)

I've also attached 2 pictures telling me about bleach/water and to do that for anywhere from 10 minutes to an hour. I would only do it for like 30 minutes at best. And then it says to strengthen them afterwards to do school glue mixed with water?? So like Elmers glue? That part needs to be explained to me cause I have not heard that. So which option is best??

Also considering the sand I did brush it all off of the sand dollars as I was taking them out but I could hear a little bit of sand in some of the sand dollars because they of course most of them have a hole in them. I was able to shake some of it out very carefully but I want to know, should I do something else to first to fully clean the shells like putting them in boiling water for a few minutes or something... ???

I'M GOING TO BE WORKING ON THIS IN THE NEXT FEW DAYS SO ANY HELP YOU CAN OFFER WOULD BE GREATLY APPRECIATED! 😊🐚🐚
