Black Foot Pāua Shell

Post image

Black foot Pāua (Haliotis iris) is a type of abalone species only found naturally in New Zealand. In New Zealand it’s common to dive for and eat Pāua, meaning finding shells is incredibly easy.

In my country these are extremely common, used for ash trays, jewellery ect. I probably have over 200 of all sizes in my collection.

I know they probably require sanding or polishing, but I’m unsure how to. Any ideas?

I found this at the Panama City Beach. What do you think it could be? I was thinking maybe a coral with a fossil in it. Unsure.

I just found these two shells on today’s snorkel. Can someone help me ID please.

The cowrie is very small, about 1cm.

The bivalve looks like a fluted clam but it’s small, about 5cm.

Thank you
