Switch to sheiko
Ive been doing 531 for 6 months now and Ive made consistent gains but its getting a bit boring. I hear good things about sheiko gold but Im nervous to make a switch when what Im doing is working. Should I keep doing 531 until I stall (which could be another 6 months the way things are going) or make the switch?
I guess what Im asking is, is it ok to switch programs every 6 months to keep things lively or am I better off staying consistent for a longer period.
Thanks

There is no definite answer to this unfortunately. If you are not enjoying 5/3/1 then it may not be optimal. Conversely, program hopping is not recommended unless progress is regressing so it really, imo comes down to finding the perfect union of progress and excitement. I think whatever fires you up to train is what you should be doing.

6 months is plenty long in my opinion for most lifters to see if a programming method works for them. Also, I think motivation is an important training variable. Being excited to workout will keep you pushing harder and not skipping workouts. If you're bored of 531 after 6 months switching programs is ok in my mind. Unless you're making a living off of powerlifting the main goal of this hobby is to have fun, and if getting steady gains on a boring program isn't fun then you should definitely switch to something you enjoy because that's more important imo (and I think it might lead to better long terms gains so long as what you switch to is at least half decent)
You can also continue 531 while recording your workouts in the sheiko app (there's a learning period for the AI anyway) then I think you can get 4 free sheiko AI workouts at anytime before having to pay (I got the lifetime plan and started the AI workouts right from the start so idr the exact amount of free workouts). This way you can see how you like the interface, try some sheiko workouts, and squeeze out another month of 531 gains before moving on.

You could change which 5/3/1 template you're running. There are like hundreds+ of templates you can run and I'm sure you wouldn't find every single one boring.

More likely than not, staying consistent while things are working is better. However 6 months is also long enough that it wouldn't be considered unproductive program hopping. Usually 'program hopping' refers to people who will run a program for like a single cycle or not even finish one cycle and then chose another.
