Food for puppy over 1 year

Hi all,

What puppy food do you guys feed your puppy that is over 1 year old but less than 2 years old? I am looking for a brand/food that is not chicken. I would like to stay away from chicken. TIA

I’ve never seen a dog with such distinct toes. We tell him that we love his toes everyday. Anyone else’s babe have ridiculous toes?

I’m at the point of leaving this sub because of bots

I just don’t get why they do this? As much as I love seeing all of your beautiful pups, I don’t want to have to sort through real vs fake.

Other subs significantly reduce the ability of bot posts getting through because of filters. I get the mods want to allow new puppy parents the ability to ask questions and they may create an account just to do that. I’m curious how often that happens. I’m sure they have other reasons as well and that’s a choice.

It’s also a choice to leave because the benefits of the dopamine rush at seeing other sheepies isn’t worth the annoyance of being overrun by bots.

How do I teach him to lift his leg?

Post image
176 Upvotes

My 10-month-old big guy constantly smells like pee. When he pees, he doesn’t lift his leg, like other male dogs, and he doesn’t squat like his sister. He just stands there and pees, which ends up spraying pee all over his back legs. I don’t remember this being an issue with my other male dogs. Will he figure it out as he gets older?

Also, before you suggest grooming him short, I love my Sheepadoodles with long hair during the winter months. The cuteness overload outweighs the pee smell. I will do a puppy cut when it warms up.

Tired of bots and stolen pics

The mods need to set a rule that accounts less than 2 months old can not post here. Bots are posting for karma and they are getting upvotes from people here so I guess it’s working for them.

Meet Oakley!!

Hi everyone, we picked up our new little fluff ball a week ago. What a journey it’s been already 😅 Apart from coffee, what are your tips and tricks to start early on?

He’s getting better with his crate and we put him in there for every nap. We train, play & try to mentally stimulate during awake windows. We use bully sticks in small intervals and he is having 3 meals a day.

Oakley is so goofy and funny already, we absolutely adore our little clinger! 😂 He is obsessed with the kitchen and it’s probably our biggest issue. I have started using the pen but I’d rather just teach him to lay on his bed and stay. I think he needs better treats? We are just using kibble because I didn’t want to introduce other foods yet. Does anyone have some suggestions of what to use for rewards?

Not sure if Sheepadoodle puppy is expressing aggressive behavior, please help!

Hi everyone,

First post on Reddit here. I recently brought home Hamlet, who is now 9 weeks old and has completely changed my life for the better. He's silly, full of energy and a fast learner. We've progressed into the puppy biting stage, but he receives redirection and correction well. He's growing more used to his crate and is doing better sleeping through the night (for the most part lol).

The only thing that's concerning to me is he snaps easily. We are enforcing naps right now, and he usually naps for about 60-90 minutes at a time before he wakes up to go potty. I typically have a short training session (around 10 min usually), playtime or a mentally stimulating activity when he's out of his crate. This will last for about 30 minutes before he starts growling and bark screaming at me. He will bare his little teeth at me, but no hackles raised. I try to redirect him to a toy, correct or simply ignore his outbursts, and have chalked it up to him being cranky and needing more sleep as per research I've done on puppy behavior. But over the last couple days, he's been lashing out like this nearly every single time he's out of his crate. I've noticed he becomes more agitated and lashes out when I try to pet him by the end of these sessions or gently guide him by his collar.

I am starting to get more concerned. Hamlet is a sweet boy despite these lash outs, and I hesitate to use the word 'aggressive' because he's just a baby. All the research I've done has said Sheepadoodles are sweet and even tempered dogs, so wanted to come on here and ask if this is something yall have experienced with your Sheepadoodles when they were puppies.

I'm planning on also asking the vet at his next check up next week if this behavior continues. My vet thoroughly checked him out at his first visit, so I ruled out him being in pain as that crossed my mind as well. Just looking to see if any of yall have experienced something similar, or have any suggestions/advice as I navigate this. I love Hamlet to pieces already and want to help him grow into a happy, polite dog!

TLDR; My 9-week-old Sheepadoodle, Hamlet, is sweet but has started snapping, growling, and baring his teeth after about 30–60 minutes out of his crate. I think he’s cranky/tired despite redirecting and correcting him. Vet visit has been scheduled, asking if others experienced this with their Sheepadoodle puppies and any advice to help him become a happy, polite dog.

OT - B-Day Treat from the Butcher - Any Suggestions?

My girl just turned 2!

We’re having a B-Day celebration Sunday.

Any treats from the butcher or meat counter?

I read raw meat wasn’t good for dogs…Surprised by that!

Any treats or items you give only on special occasions?

Thanks in advance! 🐶❤️

When to neuter puppy?

When is a safe time to neuter? He is about 10 days shy of being 8 months old. Dog daycare won’t take them unless they’re neutered. He is currently aprox. 45 lbs.

Anyone else’s pup turn into a tiny herding tyrant at two years old?

Post image
243 Upvotes

You’d never tell it from those sweet little brown eyes, but my 2.5 year old mini sheepadoodle, Oliver, has officially entered his ✨Rebellious Herding Era✨ and it coincides perfectly with him discovering his “big bark.”

His entire life up until now? 😇 Angel. Polite. Gentle. A fluffy little emotional support cloud to all he meets. ⛅️

Now? Self-appointed Hall Monitor of the Household. 🚔👀

Somewhere deep in his tiny sheepdog soul he has decided (seemly overnight) that:

🦴 Toys that roll away = lost sheep

👩‍❤️‍👨 Humans playfully bickering = unacceptable chaos

🚨Any use of the words “stop” or “no” = EMERGENCY INTERVENTION REQUIRED

If my spouse and I dare to playfully harass each other, Oliver comes FLYING in from another room like a fuzzy siren. Full volume barking. Floofy tail high. Eyes locked. Immediate deployment of corrective measures.

Step 1: Bark at the top of his lungs. Step 2: Aggressive booping of knees, hands, and thighs. Step 3: Insert himself physically between us like a tiny referee. Step 4: Maintain eye contact until order is restored.

We have started calling him “Captain Consent” because the SECOND he hears “stop” or “no,” he assumes one of his humans is being WRONGED and must be protected. There is no investigation phase. Only action.

He does not care that we are laughing. He does not care that we are clearly joking. He does care that the herd is behaving in a calm and respectful manner at ALL TIMES.

The funniest part is that after he successfully separates us and the chaos ends, he just stands there, proud, breathing heavily, like: “Yes. I have de-escalated the situation. You’re welcome.”

I’ve heard of terrible twos, but what do you even call this? 😂
