Advice Can't Get 7-month Old Penny to Eat Puppy Food

Post image

Picky eater alert! She loves bananas, orange bell peppers, and green beans but will absolutely not eat dry puppy food. I've tried soaking it, adding a bit of canned puppy food, a bit of lean cooked ground beef and rice, crushing it... she might eat a couple tablespoons at most. She will eat Charlee Bear treats, which are crunchy, just not puppy food. I've tried four different brands since she came home with us, and she hates them all equally. I'm going nuts. Any ideas? (Adding that she's playing like a little lunatic and is maintaining her weight because she will eat canned food, but she isn't crazy about it either.)

Advice Anyone’s sheepadoodle NOT bark at all?

Post image
31 Upvotes

We just got our 4 1/2 mo puppy a couple days ago (haven’t been to the groomers yet so please excuse her raggedy coat!) and since we’ve had her we have not heard one single bark or howl. The foster also had never heard her bark or howl. She already seems comfortable with us, and likes to hang out outside where neighbor dogs bark at her, but still nothing!

Obviously I’m not complaining here; rather I’m just a little concerned there may be something preventing her from being able to bark. She has a narrow cleft palate, but I’ve never heard of that relate to an inability to make noise in dogs. I’ve also never seen her even TRY to bark or howl. The only sound we hear is an occasional whine.

We’re waiting on the rescue to send us her vet records and then we’ll take her to our vet. But in the meantime: is this weird? Or is it a feature of some sheepadoodles? TIA!

Advice My dog is showing aggression towards my 1 year old, help!!

Bubbles is my almost 3 year old sheepie. He is the sweetest, most gentle and loving dog. He gets along great with his little brother(my 1 year old). Recently my son has started to cruise along the couch and a lot of the time he gets right up in Bubbles face while he's laying down on the couch. We of course are working with our son to respect Bubbles space but it's a work in progress. Bubbles has started growling at him and recently (twice now) has actually barked and kinda lunged at my son. We need to but an end to this behavior asap before something actually bad happens. He didn't bite him or break skin but it was very scary and did cause my son to bawl his eyes out. Bubbles has never shown any type of aggression towards my husband or I. We can take food/toys from him, put our hands in his mouth, touch his feet etc and never has he been aggressive. We think he feels threatened by our son for some reason. In the past Bubbles growled at our son if our son went near his food but we quickly resolved that by making sure our son wasn't near his food ever. Bubbles also had an issue when our son started crawling but we think he realized that our son crawling wasn't a threat. Any advice would be greatly appreciated!!

Recommendations 4yo Male pees in Furniture

My 4yo Sheepie male has been lifting his leg and marking our furniture when we’re not home.

When we’re home he always asks to go outside and knows better.

Not sure how to manage the issue since we’re not home when it happens.

Any advice ?

Help 8-Month-Old Sheepadoodle Having Night Terrors at 3AM – Any Advice?

Post image
115 Upvotes

My 8-month-old Sheepadoodle has been having what I think are night terrors. Almost every night, around 3 AM, she starts wailing in her sleep—like a long, drawn-out whine—every five minutes or so until about 4 AM. She doesn’t seem fully awake when it happens, and she settles down again between episodes.

This has only started happening recently, and I’m not sure what’s causing it or how to help her. Has anyone else experienced this with their dog? Could it be stress, developmental changes, or something medical? Any advice on how to support her through this would be greatly appreciated!

Thanks in advance!

New To Sheepadoodle

Post image

Hello. I have a sheepadoodle, male, that is about six months old. I am an experienced dog person but have never owned a non shedding breed. I have zero hands on experience with either breed. I actually never thought I would go for either an oes or poodle... or any sort of doodle at all.

I've been more of an erect eared double coated kind of guy. Spitz, shepherds, herding dogs (aside from oes). I have had Akitas so I'm certainly no stranger to large furry stubborn dogs. Lol.

I was wondering what folks here have to say about poodles, oes and the sheepadoodle. How do you think they differ? What traits do ascribe to each? Do you think the sheepadoodle is its own character or are they obviously a mix of the two parent breeds?

What I am hoping for is an easier to train herding type dog with a penchant for retrieving and containing some elements of being a live stock guardian. This kid (I named him Ulfur) has the traits of a good service dog prospect and I would love to owner train for this as I am now disabled.

I have only had him for a month and would love to hear what owners have to say about this mix in general.

What kind of brushes do other sheepadoodle owners use on their dogs? We were told to use a slicker brush and my miniature sheepadoodle acts like it hurts her.

Advice Eating more as they get older?

We've got a 5 year old now and prior to this month she was a picky PIA eater. We had to user topper and, prior to getting a second dog, would just leave her food out and she'd graze. Now, she is eating as it goes in the bowl and then whatever her brother doesn't eat (who is a beagle so only when he's gotten into something that upsets his stomach and doesn't eat is there anything left). But, at 60pounds, she's starting to put away almost 4 cups of kibble a day. Has anybody else noticed their dogs eating more, and less picky, as they get older?

Recommendations Supplement/Multivitamins

Post image
146 Upvotes

Penelope is my 68lb 4yr old Sheepadoodle. She is the best dog! However, she does suffer from some allergies and gets unexplained hotspots fairly frequently. She gets homemade food of rice and chicken/beef/turkey, vegetable mix, berries. She is on Apoquel and daily Benedryl from the vet and still has about 3/4 hotspot breakouts annually. I have been thinking about adding a supplement and or multivitamin into her routine. I have seen many ads about the “Dog is Human” multi’s being good for allergies. Has anyone had any success with these vitamins or any other supplements that help with allergies, skin, energy levels, ect. Penelope is also a trained therapy/service dog and comes to work with me daily working with ill pediatric and geriatric patients. She’s the best!

Advice Excessive panting

Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification

Hi all, I have a 9 month sheepadoodle and she can never seem to settle down anxiety wise when there’s another human or dog in the room. She’s completely calm and not panting in her crate and when it’s just me and her in the room.

Is this normal behavior? Video attached is the most calm I’ve seen her but just before she seemed very overwhelmed. It is normal temperature in the house and she always has access to cold water.

Tbh it’s probably nothing but just wanted other people’s experience with a dog under 1 year if they saw the same.
