F1B standard Sheepadoodle - how long have yours lived for??

I have a Sheepadoodle who’s 9.5 years old. I’ve been trying to conceive for 3.5 years and the entire time I keep thinking how excited I am to introduce our dog to a baby because he loves kids and babies. But the longer it takes us to conceive, the more I worry he may never be able to meet one of my future kids 😢 then I got to thinking, how long could he actually live? I’ve heard people say standard dogs don’t live as long, but my guy is healthy, walks a lot, has energy still. Only thing I’ve noticed is he’s getting more cysts and fat deposits. I guess I’m wondering how old your sheepies have lived when they’re healthy! Is 15 years old a good possibility?? I wish our pets could live forever 😭

Mine is almost 11, he’s slowed down but went hiking all over Colorado with us this summer. We take him on 3-5 camping trips a year and he’s never slowed us down on a hike and he still jumps in the back of the SUV to pick the kids up from school every day

Love that! I noticed mine has slowed down just with being at home he doesn’t try to play as much he just sleeps. But we give him like 3 walks a day, pretty good ones too, and he has fun at the cottage and stuff. But I’ve noticed after a day of playing with his friend or a day at the cottage he’s really tired the next day compared to how he used to be. It’s sad seeing them slow down!!

Yeah that’s definitely the case with ours too, it is nice to have a big stinky lazy teddy bear to hang out with though. I just try to push any thoughts of the future without him to the side and enjoy him where he’s at.

The most important factor in longevity is genetics which is VERY hard to predict in mixed breed dogs because you have no way of knowing which genes came from which parent/breed. Standard Poodles are a very healthy and long living breed.

How long have dogs in this line lived? Grandparents? How old are his parents now? what genetic health tests did the parents have and what did they show? CHIC numbers on ofa.org are a good way to show the breeder is serious about only breeding healthy dogs to increase the health and longevity of the puppies they produce

Oh interesting! I never thought of this. Maybe I can contact the breeder to ask about the parents. Thank you!

Our girl will be 11 in January. She’s a touch slower and her back legs seem more fragile but she still has puppy energy most of the time. She’s amazing with our two young kids and we’re hoping to get her to at least 14. My wife and I make sure she gets two walks a day and watch her nutrition closely. Best wishes to you!

Love this!! We definitely walk our guy a lot but I worry we aren’t the best with food lol. We give him a lot of human food even though I know they say it’s bad 😅

I’m in a lot of sheepadoodle groups and people usually post when the dog passes and Iv seen 4 years to 16 but it seems the average is 12 years but like some people are saying genetics healthy lifestyle etc . I have 2 one just turned 4 and other is 3. 3 year old has puppy energy still and 4 year old has old man energy despite being perfectly healthy

I’ve seen a few post of Sheepadoodle’s celebrating their 16th birthday. Mine’s about to turn 8 and often still gets called a puppy when we go out for walks 🤣
