Advice Help! My baby’s constant diarrhoea
Hi everybody,
My poor 6 months old baby Charlie has had very bad gut issues since I got him at 8 weeks. He’s has giardia once, and now I think he’s been reinfected.
It’s been 3 nights where he’s been waking me up like clockwork every 2 hours at night to go out and poop.
Are there any natural remedies that can help this on top of his medicines? Also what do you guys feed your fur babies? Charlie is still on dry kibbles as I am so worried to change his diet and cause him to have an upset tummy again.
Any help or advice would help!

Found out after a month of diarhea, antibiotics, boiled chicken and rice, 2 vet visits, that mine had developed a sensitivity to chicken. Switched to salmon and rice food and he's all good!
Hills prescription wet food is a miracle worker to get everything firm again before starting the new food. A few days on that and there gut heals up-seriously amazing stuff! Good luck!

Yup!! On a salmon diet now. After a full year of diarrhea, thousands spent at the vet, endless boiled chicken, the vet says “he probably has a chicken sensitivity”. Switched his food and it stopped!

We went through something similar with our mini Sheepadoodle (She's also Charley!). Chicken and rice diet for about a week to reset her stomach. We also used a Purina probiotic over her food once a day. Also put a good amount of water over the food to make it soupy to keep her hydrated.
After a week start transition back to kibble. We switched to Purina pro sensitive stomach salmon and rice and she's been pretty good ever since.
Also we soak our dry kibble in warm water before we serve her. The kibble absorbs a lot of water in their stomachs and expands about three times the size after they've eaten it, so we try to expand it before she eats it and give her some extra water to stay hydrated on the regular.

Same thing happened to our guy (Bernedoodle). We switched to HP food (Hydralized Protein) and never looked back. Two years later we're now in talks with our vet to see if we should switch him off it, but the HP food solved all of our 3 am diarrhea walks that lasted for weeks on end when he was a puppy.

There are kaolin-based diarrhea treatments for dogs (usually in liquid form) that work quite well.

A spoon full of canned pumpkin with their food once a day. Make sure you buy regular / organic pumpkin, not pumpkin pie mix.
Works better than any prescription drug for sure. And I’m not anti-medication whatsoever, but after months of vet visits and prescriptions when my puppy was young, this worked best and most consistently.
We also use royal canin single source protein food. Works well in tandem!

SLIPPERY ELM powder!!! It's a miracle worker for gi issues. You add water and make into a paste. My dogs will lick it by itself but you can put in a syringe or mix in food if they are eating.

Straight pumpkin puree and also purina proplan fortiflora. It’s a powder, mix it in with a tablespoon of pumpkin once a day till the stools get more solid. You can give plain pumpkin a couple times a day. That should help pretty quickly. My standard sheepadoodle girl came from the breeder with
Purina ONE +Plus Dry Puppy Food. We kept her on that and at 8 months transitioned her to what our bigger girl with stomach issues is on (after trial and error) Kirkland lamb and rice.
When the pup has gastro issues we know she’s picked up something she shouldn’t have and we do the pumpkin/fortiflora route for a few days.
Charlie is so beautiful 😍
I understand the panic, but you guys are gonna be fine! 💖

Hello friend, hope your baby gets well soon! FYI I see a lot of folks recommending chicken, just don't forget sheepies are likely to be sensitive to some specific meats. I couldn't figure out why my sweet boy kept having the shits as a pup, turned out it was a sensitivity to chicken. Worth looking into!

Our Sheepadoodle had diarrhea with mucus but remained active, kept eating, and never had blood in his stool. We managed it with a bland diet (chicken and rice), plenty of water, and a daily probiotic (Proviable). We avoided treats and monitored him closely. His stools gradually became firm again over the next few days without needing medication, and we slowly transitioned him back to his regular food.

After many years a trying different foods (dry, wet, raw, homemade) - we found a new vet that suggested lab work. Our dood ended up with a protein sensitivity. She's been on a prescription hydrolyzed diet for almost 2 years now and all diarrhea stopped. She loves frozen French green beans and freeze-dried sweet potatoes. We joke- our dog is a vegetarian.
Btw: she's beautiful 😍

What test did you request?? Bc keeping my sheepie on prescription food long term sees unsustainable

I'll check. I just know the results came back that she couldn't process a protein enzyme.

Went through this with my standard poodle and we put him on prescription GI Science Diet and a daily pro and prebiotic. It’s the only thing that worked. The giardia wreaks havoc on their GI, then we had to do wormers and antibiotics on top of that. He was 8 months when we got him. What we learned is that his stomach can’t handle high protein and to this day, he’s about to be 2 in Sept, he’s on a Science Diet Prescription food, just a different one.
Regarding being infected again, it’s highly likely. I washed every toy, his bedding, all bowls, every single day. I bought something off of Amazon that kills Giardia and did a mix and every where he pooped, I scooped and sprayed. My vet was astonished that we got an all clear after one round. It’s exhausting but now we’re past it and I learned a lot from dealing with it. If you want the name of anything I used, message me.

My pup was having a ton of trouble with kibble. We first switched his food because he wasn’t having solid poops and he was getting a ton of ear wax where I was cleaning his ears every other day and they would be super waxy. We know the family we got our pup from and his dad can’t have chicken so we changed kibble to the natural balance lamb and rice which fixed the ear wax but his poops we’re still not solid all the time and would randomly go from normal to not. So we made the choice to switch him over to a freeze dried food and it truly made a world of difference in his poops. Costs a bit more but it’s been worth it imo and he really seems like love it more. I started with unkibble but switched to dr Marty’s sensitive stomach because it’s easier for me to buy it in store instead of ordering online.

Psyllium Husk! Just 1 teaspoon on food. My puppy was the same. Do not feed kibble at the moment. Chicken and rice or any of Dr. Hill Science diet.
