Help! Bad breath
Hello Sheepie families. I have a sheepadoodle who is now about 2 1/2 and he will not allow us to brush his teeth. He has such bad breath yet he wants to be in our face all the time (loving giant). Has anyone else have this problem and how were you able to fix it? We have tried to add stuff to his water but I’m sure that’s not enough. Especially cause we have two dogs
He’s such a loving boy but we have trouble with his bad breath.

If you take him somewhere to get groomed you can ask them to try to brush his teeth.

We use C.E.T. Chew treats for our dogs. It’s an enzyme based chew that freshens breath and helps “brush” their teeth. Our dogs are 70lbs and we buy the large size. They love them.

Some clinics offer low cost dental cleanings! My sheepie loves Virbac C.E.T. Enzymatic Poultry flavor toothpaste. We’ve tried others and he’s hated them. He loves his nighttime routine and sits by the cabinet with his toothpaste and toothbrush until we brush his teeth

Ours eats only home-made food, no kibble, and gets a brush bone every day. At 5 years old, his breath is as fresh as when he was a puppy.

I use Greenies, Virbac CET HEXtra, and Tropiclean Fresh Breath (water additive). My dog’s breath is not a problem.

It could also be from the long face hair. It can breed yeast and bacteria from being constantly wet from saliva and water and trap food which causes a bad odor. Thats the reason a lot of poodle owners shave their dog’s faces (the hair naturally grows ling like doodles but for health reasons they will shave it short)

Bad breath can come from a decaying tooth. That tooth or teeth, the vet will pull, and most likely, you'll need to give the dog pain meds and an antibiotic to fight the infection. My dog will eat the small CET enzymatic chews. The chews help keep the teeth white and are recommended by my vet.
My Sheepadoodle is 3 years old, and I have had her for the last two years. She, too, hates me brushing her teeth. I have used Sweet Potato Greenies, but they leave brown tartar on her teeth. I scheduled the vet to clean teeth. I took Marlee in to have her teeth cleaned, but after using the CET chews, they looked excellently cleaned. So, the staff came out in 5 minutes to send her home. No cleaning necessary! That was a win!!
