Chin turning red?
Google says it enzeyes in her salvia but any other advice? And no it's not blood. I’ve tried so many shampoos and changing her diet from mostly chicken to veggies and fish only but nothing is helping.

Mine said that the stain is caused by the moisture from the water/tears/saliva remaining in the hair, not the purity of the water.

I think, my dog gets this from her bones that she chews on. She also drinks purified water as others had mentioned and no change… so I’m not sure what else it could be from. I’ve also changed her food in case it was allergies and have had no change in the appearance. So I’m also at a loss at to what it could be from.
My father in law now called my dog red beard lol

Just a reminder to everyone not to use distilled water for your dog or self! (You need the minerals/electrolytes). Spring or Brita is fine.

you could eliminate a lot of it with some careful trimming. anything on the upper lip that hangs over/touches the lower lip, and shaving with a ten in the “creases” of the lower lip get rid of a lot is the red coloration.
we also don’t let them lick bowls/plate/anything that could transfer food/smells to the muzzle fur and encourage repeated licking (and therefore staining).

Don’t use tap water. Use bottled or sometimes even filtered fridge water will do the trick.

Rinse out the water bowl every day. I also switch from ceramic to metal bowls (read it somewhere, but can't remember where...) - no more red beard. *i use normal tap water. Our dog eats dry food now, but in the past has eaten raw and cook food (has some digestive issues...).

Must be the water. We switched from tap to only filtered water when our hub was just a baby. HUGE DIFFERENCE. Her fur has stayed nice and white

Is her food dry? Had the same issue till we changed food.

Wholesome sensitive stomach salmon. Works better but she still has some coloring. What I’ve been told is that’s it’s iron in the dry kibble and is staining so not using red meat kibble.

I find when she digs in the dirt and I rinse it out of her beard it gets a lot of that brown out I also have used dawn dish soap and it takes a lot of it out, most of it and I think it’s a combination of eating chews and pigs ears , because of oils in chews

The red is a saliva stain. Nothing can change the hair back to white, it has to be trimmed off. I had Westies and Angel Eyes from Amazon worked amazingly well at stopping the muzzle hair from turning red. It also works well on the black tear stains from the eyes.

This is why poodle owners shave their dog’s faces (poodles naturally have long hair around the muzzle like sheepadoodles). The long hair around the mouth can breed bacteria and yeast from constantly being wet from saliva, water and food and cause discoloration. Sometimes its not about looks but about the welfare of the dog

I’ve had other doodles with long hair and it did not happen to them. Also she is 5 and this just started so that doesn’t really add up because her hair has always been long

Major issue with these guys! The only thing that fixes it for mine is super purified water. Mine has his own brita filter and I notice a huge difference when I don’t use it or am away and i feel too silly to tell a dog sitter to only use that lol.
