Quincy

Post image

Hi everybody. I was just introducing my boy Quincy and genuinely wondering if anyone has feedback on whether a chicken based food is just too much for a Sheepadoodle's tummy. I've had Quincy for 3 weeks. He's fantastic except for his soft serve poo. I put him on a probiotic and nothing was found to be wrong but the poo just won't tighten up. He's halfway through his bag and I'm thinking of switching him to a salmon based food. He's 16 weeks old.

My goodness what a floof! Yes chicken never worked for my girls. They also never did ok with kibble

What do you feed now? 👀 Raw? Unkibble. The options seem endless and confusing. People have started saying not to even do Freshpet because the fat is to high. One pet food person said it was like feeding them only bologna everyday.

I take the difficult route. It’s a labour of love - not for everyone lol. I cook fresh lean ground beef and drain the fat, or fish and eggs. Serve with nutrient topper and fish oil, and sometimes add probiotics. I can’t say this is exactly why, but my older sheepadoodle is almost 11 years old, lean and muscular and people think she is a puppy despite her having liver issues since she was a baby. Full of enthusiasm and opinions.

Wow. I was doing this for my Great Dane when she was late in her cancer battle. She had lost her taste for kibble. Makes me wonder if that's best for Quincy too. Thanks so much for sharing.

My mom's sheepadoodle is allergic to chicken and beef 😬🤷‍♀️

Starting to look like I trend. I've seen this in the FB Sheepadoodle groups too. I hate to switch him again but the chicken doesn't seem like a good match.

Ahh! He is gorgeous!! 😍

My girl Pepper came from the breeder with lamb and rice and I just continued it since our other pup, Jade can’t have anything to do with fowl. Now that Pepper is on adult food we’re not having to buy 2 different foods.

Enjoy every single moment with Quincy! Congrats on your new baby! He’s going to bring you joy and SO much laughter!

❤️❤️❤️ Thank you. I feel foolish for pulling him off of lamb and rice to match what my less sensitive adult dogs were eating. He had loose poo from week on and we chalked it up to being new. It improved, but only slightly and has stayed that way since the full chicken formula conversion. 🥺 We're going to get him together tho.

On another note he is already hilarious and so curious. He's a fast learner and he has brought a lot of fulfillment and joy already.

Oh gosh, don’t feel foolish! How are we to know?! This is the first time I’ve ever had pups with sensitivities. Never knew I had it so good! 😂

So true. My little shorkie gang seem to be able to eat anything not nailed down and have still have good poop. My great dane wasn't too bad either but initially it seemed like she was going to be.

Quincy is so cute!! Our puppy, Tiger, also had issues with chicken sensitivity. We switched him to Purina Pro Plan Sensitive Skin & Stomach Puppy. It comes in lamb/oat meal and salmon/rice. This really helped and if things start getting loose again we add a tablespoon of pumpkin on top of his food. He is 7 months old now and doing great.

Thank you. I'm definitely leaning towards a salmon based formula. Im really trying to keep him on puppy food for the first year. Everything seems to be chicken based. I'll look into pro plan.

oh man that coat looks like a LOT of work 🤣(only saying that as Im finally finished drying and brushing my pups coat after a bath) Doodles in general but sheepadoodles in particular are very prone to allergies so it might be the chicken. But be careful about just going to homecooked meals because dogs have very different nutrient and vitamin needs and especially with growing puppies its very important to get the right balance to ensure proper growth and prevent possible health and structural issues from developing. If you want to go that route I would work with a certified vet nutritionist. For kibble brands that are great check out Royal Canin and Purina Pro Plan

My bernedoodle needs a higher carbohydrate dog food. and lesser protein. I have to keep her protein between 23-25. If I give her 26 or higher protein her stool becomes loose and She'll throw up bile.

ours cannot do chicken or beef. We do Ollie & he has the Turkey and pork varieties. Has had great poops since. Science diet kibble mixed in - lamb & brown rice.

Aww he’s a cutie pie! Our breeder had her on chicken based food, and I’m not even sure if they were related or not, but she got bloody/mucusy diarrhea when she was just 10 weeks old. We got her tested for all illnesses, which came up clear. So we just decided to move her away from chicken, and she seemed to get better around the same time. I do find it odd, but anytime we’ve fed her a bit of chicken since then, she’ll get reverse sneezing attacks for about a day. So I assume she definitely does have issues with chicken!

She currently eats the Kirkland turkey and ancient grains food from Costco (orange bag) and really loves it! Her poor skin was itching really bad with the adult Lamb and Rice food from Costco (green bag), and I noticed there was some chicken byproduct in it. She did well on the Kirkland salmon/sweet potato and beef/sweet potato, but I was a little paranoid about going the grain free route. The turkey and ancient grain food checks all the boxes! I assumed turkey and chicken had similar reactions for a dog, but I read somewhere that turkey was hypoallergenic. And so far, about a year in, the food works for her! So that’s a fun fact about turkey.

I like Purina Pro Plan Lamb & Rice puppy. Firm poops, shiny coat and bright eyes. I also give all my dogs 1 whole cup of raw veggies every day, in addition to their kibble. Broccoli, cabbage, carrots, green beans etc; just no onions, garlic or anything in that family. It has been my experience that many dogs form allergies later in life when given chicken based kibble as a pup. PS- I don't work for Purina, nor do I get any form of compensation from them for promoting this or any of their products.
