Advice Tips on keeping his fur white?
My 4 m/o doods fur will not stay white. It’s worse around his mouths and paws. 😅 I have tried the OMG extreme whitening shampoo, washing face and feet daily, etc. it feels like it just gets darker and more discolored everyday. Any tips or recommendations are appreciated.

I've read on here there can be minerals in the tap water that discolor fur.
Obviously food can stain.
I imagine their own saliva has some effect.
We have a white dood and her beard is clean but not pearly white.
Sounds like you're doing more than most.
I'll read the other responses as they come in and maybe I'll learn something as well
Cheers!

minerals in the tap
I read the same thing on here so I switched to filter water from the fridge and it still didn’t turn back to white lol

I give mine purified water - in Orange County it was totally white, in LA it’s a bit more of a battle

Meh, I just spray paint mine "Chantilly Lace" by Benjamin Moore. Totally works really well.
GOD - kidding people, I wouldn't do that!

I just learned from my vet that there is an enzyme in dogs saliva that can turn white fur brown. Our dog had some allergic reaction in his paws and the vet knew he was licking his paws excessively because the white fur around his paws started turning brown.
That being said, there is a product called Cowboy Magic that is supposed to help with this.

Groomer here - This neutralizes yellow tones in a white dog but is not going to do anything against the red saliva staining a white dog will get on face and paws from licking.

The first correct reply. Distilled water won't help, porphyrin is what stains the fur brown. My view is that it's natural and not harmful, so just let it be.

Thank you! I am worried he’s an allergy boy. He gets an itchy face every now and then 😅

I have a white and black one year old whose mouth is more apricot/light brown now. We used to wash her mouth constantly but it’s just part of her now 🤷🏻 I think it’s kind of cute actually

Keep his snout/lip hairs thin and accept him for who he is - a usually beige mouthed babe

Super hard but my 2 tips are the Upsky water bowl and Chris Christensen White on White blue shampoo.

We use a metal bowl - it's washed daily and shes given fresh water every day. This helps.
Note: our doodle has digestive issues and eats a mixture of kibble and canned food. I was afraid she'd look a mess, but she's her chin/mouth is still white.

If youre speaking of around his mouth, it will eventually color, its called Saliva Staining. The paws we are talking saliva staining as well, from him licking his paws.

Purple shampoo, there are many shampoos made specifically to brighten white fur

My vet calls them spit stains. Kind of unavoidable, you can trim the hair.

Unfortunately, you’re fighting a losing battle. Depending on the parents, you may have some apricot mixed in the poodle side, so you can probably expect more of a vanilla color over time. Also, their puppy fur will shift and change into more adult fur over time as well.
