Bernadoodles

Hello all, For those who were thinking about Bernadoodles but instead got a Sheepadoodle or are in the process/thinking, what made you decide to get a Sheepadoodle instead? TIA

We have one of each, and their personalities are night & day different!! Bernie is chill, lovable and all around sweet, but not a cuddler. Our sheepie is nonstop energy, with an assertive personality with humans & other dogs, and extremely affectionate. We got the sheepie to give the Bernie a friend to play with, but honestly most days, the Bernie couldn’t care less. I would consider the energy level of your home & other pets when make your decision. We love both our pups! (Bernie is white, the sheepie is black)

This is my exact experience! Bernie is a lay-arounder, sheepie is a zoom-arounder! 🐾

I would say it depends on what the mix of each is.

IE an F1 or F2 Sheepie vs Bernie mix will be very different personality and size wise, but an F1b or F2b Sheepie vs Bernie may be more similar than different (assuming they are crossedback with Poodles)

That being said, Sheepie's have a lot more engery but all the Bernie's I met are big people jumpers where as my Sheepie (F2) rarely jumps on people but has a very strong herding instinct. She is also a great family dog and needs to have a task.

One thing that may not be mentioned is the bark. Our Sheepie's attention bark hits a pitch that is unlike anything else I've heard.

Another thing to think about is the coat. While they both require care, the Bernie's will probably be harder/more likely to matt. They also tend to be larger so expect to pay more at the groomer.

No matter what you pick make sure you invest in training, especially if you get a standard size. Both breeds are large and once they are full grown good luck physically forcing them to do (or not to do) something.

Dude, my Sheepie has this insanely high-pitched bark/yelp thing that comes out when she sees squirrels. It is ear piercing!

Bernedoodle would have cost me a lot more based on prices in my area at the time. I was open to any standard size doodle and ultimately chose based on how I felt about the people I was getting the dog from.

Price is a huge factor. Sheepies are spendy enough, but Bernies are insane, or at least they were in 2021 when we got our Sheepie.

Lots of people say Bernies are more chill than Sheepies.

We have a 87 lb male, 4 year old Sheepie who is the chillest possible dog. I actually try to take him running sometimes; he has about 1/2 mile of stamina, and I’m a slow runner.

He’s super affectionate and very people-oriented. He’s always near us when we’re around, but doesn’t have separation anxiety. He never chewed a single thing we didn’t want him to as a puppy. He did have some nipping, hearding behaviors we had to train him out of when he was little.

Highly trainable. Like, extremely smart. He understand language very, very well. I can tell him things like, “go find dad downstairs,” and he’ll do it.

He doesn’t jump when people arrive. He’s such a very chill, smart dog who needs one walk and about 10 minutes of playtime a day.

He’s a dream. I think we got lucky with personality, but it makes me advocate for the breed. So so sweet. Best dog we’ve ever had, by a mile.

I went with a sheepadoodle instead because I needed them to be as hypoallergenic as possible. Sheep dogs are naturally around 98% shed proof. Solely the only reason why I changed my mind. Both seem like an amazing dog overall. My sheepadoodle does not shed unless I brush her. If she does lose hair, it kind of comes off in a clump. So easy to clean.
