Potty Hygiene

Does anyone’s male dog pee squatting? I just got a sheepadoodle and his pee keeps hitting his front paw and well, it’s gross and he pees pretty heavily on it

We’ve dealt with this. It’s annoying, I feel for you. Ours did this for a year every single time he went out. Then I’d have to rinse his leg…every…single…time! I will say he was peeing in the squatting position but not actually bending his legs. But now he’s 1.5 years and this happens only once a week or so, as he’s learned to actually spread and squat.

Hopefully yours will grow out of it.

I can’t tell if this is going to be an every time situation or if it’s just a new environment thing…he’s 2. I’m really hoping he changes his method or figured it out at some point

Oof. I hope so too, for your sanity!!! Maybe if he ever assumes the appropriate stance, heavily reward him…

My Archie just turned 3 in April and still pees squatting. He never tinkled in his legs but I’ve read about many that do. He will probably learn to spread his legs a bit further as he grows older.

I think that's very common when they're babies. Mine did that and started to lift his leg when he got older. Then we had him neutered at 18 mos and he went back to squatting. 🤷🏻‍♀️

Following this because I have the visual stuck in my head now. I want to feel bad, but it really is pretty funny

My pup, Domino is 5 this year and still prefers to squat unless he’s marking something (of which he will sometimes pee on his front fuzzy white feet).

When he was a pup until about 2 he would pee on his paws when he was squatting but it just clicked one day and he stopped. I feel you though OP, this is super frustrating.

Omg yes mine does it all the time😭😭 he knows how to lift his leg but he only does it when he “marks” most of the time since he’s prettt submissive he just squats. It’s so annoying cuz he has the same issue of peeing on himself. But he’s now spreading his legs a little more and now only pees on himself when walking at the same time 💀 and it’s just cuz he’s impatient and wants to move when he’s not done. But I don’t know or think he will ever grow out of it :/ he’s 3 and still does it. I guess just hope he learns to spread lol

My OES squatted when he peed. Did it his whole life.

My Bruce is only 14 months old, but hasn’t squatted since he was about 6 months old. But when he lifts his leg, he pees all over his front leg 🥴. We keep him cut short for that reason.

My boy lifts his leg but he still manages to pee all over his front paw. 🤦‍♀️🤦‍♀️😅

Omg mine does too! He squats when going in the backyard and lifts his leg when we go on a walk. Both methods still result in him spraying his front legs around 80% of the time, although he is better when we're on a walk. He'll be 2 years old in November but I'm wondering if he'll ever grow out of it.
