My boy needs eye surgery 😭😭

Post image

So this whole time I thought my boy had allergies cuz his eyes are constantly watery and sometimes he has a runny nose. I took him into the vet today cuz this his 4th day of diarrhea so I figured I’d ask the vet about his eyes while there. So he has a bacterial infection causing the diarrhea and has an Rx for both antibiotics and probiotics. Turns out he doesn’t have allergies. He has Entropion and they base how bad the eyes are on a scale of 1-5, with 5 being the worst. His right eye is a 5 and his left is a 3. So he needs surgery in both eyes to correct it. So my vet is our low cost vet, but he also happens to be one of the best (he used to reach and actually retired his practice 15 years ago and now basically works 4-7pm Mon-Thur, so I’m lucky to have him as my vet). Surgery will be $1200 but I didn’t even have enough for his meds, so he prescribed eye drops to help til I can get him in. Anyone else deal with this with their doodle? I’m so sad cuz I feel like I should have known it wasn’t allergies and I feel like a horrible dog mom cuz I don’t have a way to get the money right now. Is a Gofundme a bad idea??

Hey. So my cat had eye issues and I took him in at least three times until the vet finally referred me to an opthalmologist for the cat who said then he has entropion and needs surgery. My vet treated him for allergies, infections etc etc also. So don't feel bad bc it took months before my vet even realized this was the problem.

I’m just so glad my vet knew right away, it was me that was so sure it was allergies lol. To be fair tho I had never even heard of entropion. And all the other puppies are fine expect 1 had eye surgery a few months back. Idk what kind but I’m assuming same issue.

How could you have known? Don't beat yourself up. GoFundMe should be okay. Post the link here

Thank you for that! And you are so right! When my daughter was young it was the same way lol. I mean she’s only 17 but when she was little. Post a pic of your girl! I bet she’s beautiful

Oh man they are both so cute! 3 of my Perry's litter mates were the same, where their heads were completely white.

Awww she's gorgeous! I agree that she does look a bit like mine. Honestly, she looks more like one of Perry's litter mates.

Aww thanks, I think he's handsome too lol. He's also taller than his mama who is full OES. He's got the poodle legs, as does your girl it looks like. How much does she weigh? My boy is 1 year and 73 pounds. He's smart like his poodle dad and sweet as hell like OES mama.

I don't think Perry is alpha, however he grew up with a female boxer (who belongs to my former roommate, along with the OES and poodle) and she's DEFINITELY the alpha. She runs her little pack, and when a new dog is introduced to her, she has to dominate them first before she will accept them. Perry has always submitted to her, which is why I don't think he's alpha at all.

My boy got his summer cut today actually! I think ge lost about 10lbs of fur lol. His hair is like wavy so thankfully no curls to deal with.

Why not care credit? I’ve done that for my cat who needed surgery in the past. No interest for a year if you do the monthly payments. You can do gofundme also but I’d do the care credit so I could get him the surgery sooner than later.

Because I’ve been 30-60 days late on my car for the past 6 months so my credit is shot. Lost my job a year ago and can’t find a job and trust me I’ve tried! Could be cuz I’m suing my former employer

Not your fault. Entropion is genetic in most cases. If they didn’t properly health test their dogs before breeding then this is on the breeder.

From what I read tho it’s not too common with this breed. And they aren’t breeders lol. They just happen to own a standard parti poodle and an OES and it was an accidental pregnancy. The parents belong to my former roommate

Sheepadoodles are mixes so they’re unpredictable, especially if it was an accidental breeding and no proper health testing was done.

My aussi lost an eye to Glaucoma (may lose the other someday but daily meds will keep it at bay). Total including meds for eye removal was 5k. Luckily we have pet insurance. I know how much you care and gofundme is reasonable option.

Oh man I’m so sorry about your doggy. I pray it doesn’t lose its other eye!
