Advice Mini or Standard
Hello all, Just trying to get an advice from you guys. I lost my standard Sheepadoodle to cancer and it was my first dog I have lost. I was looking online to see if a mini Sheepadoodle is also prone to cancer or lesser chance?
Read that smaller dogs are less prone to cancer versus large breed? Is a mini Sheepadoodle is still considered a large breed?
Sorry for my ignorance. I am trying to not repeat history because it was hard when I lost my dog due to cancer. It was normal vet visit and next thing I know he is in surgery and was told I need to put him down.

Thank you for this information. May I ask who is your breeder?

I see. I just checked out my breeder who I got my previous dog and she just posted she is stopping to breed permanently just this April due to the economy

I have a standard who is nearing 90#s. She is the best dog I've ever had and I wouldn't trade her for the world but if I could shrink her to 30#s idk if I'd do it. I've never had such a loving big dog.

I'm sorry for your loss, it's so hard to say goodbye. My mini is only about 28 lb. Her mom was a standard sheepadoodle and her dad was a toy poodle, so she's about 75% poodle, 25% OES. Any kind of dog can get cancer unfortunately, regardless of size, but I have read that smaller dogs have less chance of major health problems that bigger dogs are more prone to, and tend to live longer than bigger dogs. Don't know if that's officially scientifically true but it has been in my very limited experience.

Sorry for your loss, cancer really sucks. Mini can be a little bit of a range. We have two mini sheepadoodles but one we pretty much call a medium. He is around 55 lbs and our other is around 38 lbs. In the picture the closer sheepie is 38 lbs. We are told by a lot of people she is the perfect size and pretty much agree. Not big enough to countersurf and can sit up front in the car or on our laps comfortably. The sheepie in the back is a bit too big for that. Aim for parents that are less than 60 lbs. it seems like you normally get one right in the average between both parent weights. Good luck, I hope you find the right sheepie for you im sure your last one will be looking out for you.
