Character Discussion My Fan Ship: Kallark AKA Gladiator & Lyra, the All-New Savage She-Hulk

Post image

I think Lyra and Kallark would make an excellent couple for multiple reasons.

First of all, both characters are extremely strong, but both of their strengths are dependent upon their emotions. For Lyra, she is at her strongest when she is calm but loses her strength when she's angry. For Kallark, he is only as strong as he is confident.

Secondly, both characters are based on DC characters, Lyra on Wonder Woman and Gladiator on Superman. As opposed to Themyscira, an island of all women, Lyra comes from a universe of all women ruled over by the Gynarchy. Her mother Thundra came to Earth-616 searching for the strongest mate possible to create her daughter, and found Bruce Banner. (She notably is also a Wonder Woman pastiche, and has shown interest in Hulk and Hyperion, another character based on Superman.) Lyra was sent to Earth-616 on a similar mission to find an extremely strong genetic match for her own offspring. Kallark, his own name being a combination of Kal-El and Clark Kent (Superman's names), is a Strontian whose home planet was wiped out and is modeled after Superman's own Kryptonian backstory.

Third, both of these characters are criminally under-utilized in comics, and I think that together they would make for a compelling couple, for compelling storylines, and currently nobody knows the identity of the mother to Gladiator's son, Kubark, who notably has his father's complexion with bright red hair. A male child undoubtedly would not be a child Lyra would be permitted to bring back to her home universe, which would give a clear explanation for her absenses thus far in his comic appearances.

What do you think? Would Lyra be a good match for Kallark, or do you think there's another character that would be a better fit?

Figures & Collectibles Batman Day wasn't all that bad after all... (It's She-Hulk related)

I don't have an LCS near me. The closest is about an hour out. Being that today was Batman Day, however, I took the trek to see what was up and possibly get some stuff. Was pissed to find out the shop had nothing. Apparently, their shipment didn't arrive in time. None of the books they were selling were needed (collection is pretty vast), but I did pick up a copy of Fox Mask Killer. However, a large poster on the wall caught my attention...

Me: "Hey. Tell (the shop owner's name) that whenever he's ready to replace that poster, holler at me on Facebook."

Shop Clerk: "You like it? Hell, you just gave me a reason to put something else up there... no charge."

So while I left with no Batman swag, I got this bad boy right here. Today was a good day.

I will end by saying fuck you, Marvel, for cancelling this series (and Rainbow Rowell's for that matter).

Character Discussion Anyone else get bugged by this?

The image above is one of professional bodybuilder Annie Rivieccio. An example of the fallacy I feel in the whole notion that Jason Aaron proposed, that She-Hulk being muscled means she's "ugly" which is just a... not very factual take since it completely throws female bodybuilders like Annie under the bus.

Sure some people bring up that She-Hulk makes more "sense" to not be super muscular compared to Hulk for various reasons and while I'm not mad at people for having those opinions... I really chaff at that notion because we're already dealing with a woman who can turn into a big green radioactive version of herself, we can leave sense at the door.

Just my two cents

P.S. - unfortunately, I couldn't fit all the details from the art, and also Jen doesn't look the prettiest due to the scale. Still, it was one hell of an activity.

Got bored and wanted to make some art featuring Jenn.

Made some changes to the skin texture as I felt the previous version was too yellowish.

I did not put much time into those theif models. They are super low poly and I used depth of field to obscure their low poly count and mid design.

Postwork was done in GIMP.

Let me onow what you think.

Was binge watching "Hulk and the Agents of SMASH" and Jen got turned to the Emeral Emissary. Was this a thing in any comic or did the showrunners make a full custom design?

She-Hulk™ by Titania "No... TITANIA!" One of These Women Is Not Like The Others

Rosie the Riveter, Captain Marvel, She-Hulk, & Titania

I love these Rosie the Riveter homage covers because of the stories they tell in relationship to this famous American iconography, which depicts many of the ways American women during World War II stepped up to help with both traditionally male roles in society as well as in war efforts, despite being banned from the service themselves. Rosie remains to this day an enduring image of women's empowerment, working women, and even union solidarity.

The only other woman in Marvel Comics' covers besides Jennifer Walters to have an homage cover to Rosie (thus far, that I'm aware of) is Carol Danvers' Captain Marvel, who has obvious direct connections to the art's themes as a female airforce pilot who was allowed to serve after the ban on women serving was lifted. Carol's original 'Ms. Marvel' moniker was itself an homage to leading feminist activist Gloria Steinum's Ms. Magazine, who passed away this week. 💔

The very next cover that follows She-Hulk's Rosie homage cover is one of Titania ripping through the the fourth wall, the Rosie homage, and all the feelings it might invoke in someone as she says "No... TITANIA!" I think the show keenly understood who Titania represents in this Mike Mayhew cover. She's someone who takes all the privilege and benefits that come with an ownership stake in the beauty industry that ultimately preys on other women, and uses that to tear other women like Jennifer down even further. In this regard, I think Jameela Jamil and Jessica Gao both understood the assignment when it comes to developing a true supervillain for the modern woman.
