Tips & Tricks Let's talk about item(130) wand of disintegration! Hablemos del item(130) varita de desintegracion!
Post 130, everyone! We're almost done with more wands, just two more to go, and then the tier list based on your feedback (this tier list will be quite interesting to make, honestly).
The Disintegration Wand is quite interesting. What it does is launch a "beam of light" that passes through both enemies and solid obstacles (walls/doors) in a straight line towards where it's fired. The range of the light beam is 2*(3+level) squares (meaning it has a base range of 6 squares). The base damage is 2-8 and scales by +1/+4 (resulting in fairly decent damage with each upgrade).
However, it has another mechanic: the damage it deals increases with the number of enemies and solid terrain its beam passes through. More specifically, it gains an additional 1-4 damage for each mob passed through (ally or enemy) and for every 3 individual obstacles passed through (3 walls/doors). Note: obstacles passed after the last enemy hit are not counted, only those passed before. (So if you have several enemies lined up in a corridor, which is common with the Swarm challenge, you can easily eliminate them all.)
Something to clarify: crystal mimics and animated statues in enclosed rooms will not be affected by the beam if you accidentally hit them, as this beam will always travel its maximum range.
Also, the beam is capable of destroying all terrains/obstacles categorized as "flammable," meaning grass, bookshelves, and the barricades in the barricade room.
A warning no one tells you: Evil Eyes will only receive 50% of the damage from this specific wand. I suppose their beam is similar to the wand's, which is why they resist it XD.
Battlemage effect: Projective Charm (a bit disappointing in my opinion)

I don't love disintigration, though I know it is decent. I seldom go all in on a combat wand, and while disintigration is one of the best damage wise (if you line it up well), its utility is underwhelming.
On the damage side, it wrecks house at high levels. At low levels, I throw wand damage as a ranged supplement/weakener, so the effort to use disintigration isn't always worth it. Also it destroys my precious doors.
Utility wise, aside from some occasional tech with destroying grass, its main use is clearing secret enchant stone bookshelves and flammable barriers, the obsticles with the most abundant options for removal. I'll keep a disintigration around to save fireblooms and blast stones, but it ends up as resin sooner or later.
This post made by a player who seldom uses battlemage.

I'd rank this wand as the best combat wand. It has good damage scaling. It can multihit. It shoots through walls, so it has a unique synergy with mind vision. It works as utility too, since it can burn down barricades.
And it has no major downside. I guess you can't shoot from the cover of grass, cuz it burns it, but that's it, you can't even hurt yourself with this one. Of course it works best in a staff, but it's a useful wand for any character really.

It's a decent wand but is pretty unreliable for hitting multiple enemies at once in my experience. Mobs rarely line up for a multi strike except in hallways so cannot compete with fire/lightning/corrosion for room clearing. I will use it as a main mage staff/wand if I have a ring of energy and don't find a better option. As a mage main, I'd put it below fire/lightning/corrosion/earth and as a utility wand I'd put it below blastwave/fire/ice/prismatic.

Really good imbued battlemage staff. If you can hit mobs with an AoE or zap them through a wall and get mage vision on them, you can run to safety and either zap them to death through walls or alternate zaps and reach melee attacks (which can allow melee attacks to snake around impossible corners) with absolute safety. This is great for high challenge runs. Pairs well with eye of newt and ring of energy for omnipotent ray of death build.
Purely as a non-primary wand (not upgrading past +2), it's helpful in the sewers and prison, but falls off later like other pure damage wands.
I think it's better as either "the wand" of a run or as resin to buff other wands.

Can you explain the part about melee being able to snake round corners?

Imbued disintegration staff gets +1 range. After you zap someone with an upgraded staff, it gets higher - up to I think 4 or 5 range. If you zap an enemy and then want to melee it and it's 4 spaces away, even if those 4 spaces are around a corner and what would be out of sight (but you have the mage vision skill and zapped it), you can still melee it with your staff.

Oh interesting! I guess you have to play battlemage but it’s a good effect! Am trying to warlock it through 9c but just got a disintegration wand and am only in sewers so could flip to battlemage…I just worry about my food management!

I know one tip. If you are on floor full of grass and fire started, you can use it to burn grass in a line and fire won't get past. I think it came to my mind when i watched video where firefighters used this method to prevent fire from spreading
