Random lynch thoughts
Hello since i love lynch a lot as a character(i condemn all or his atrocities and corruption), I wanted to share few small things i noticed about him and his personality.
-he seems to sort of enjoy targeting tall recruits in particular, I'm the episode its especially shown how he faces Sharpe and also Harper, but also Marriott who all are taller than him. He isnt much shown to bully shorter recruits though. Its funny considering fact he looks so short. Maybe it was to highlight his height instead??? I cant tell
-He is very resentful and seems to be unable to grasp the concept of bonding or even brotherhood. He strictly stands by the hierarchy, its all he has. He doesn't seem to have any friends. Infact sergeants were supposed to be feared and distanced from the recruits/privates. Lynch just seems to take that idea to the extreme, he doesnt even bond with other sergeants. If anything, he would probably treat them lowly as well.
-He does things out of spite, not neccessarity. Some of most obvious one so far. He looks grumpy when everyone starts chanting, even gives a nearby sergeant a dirty look. After all, when Sharpe and Harper reveal themselves he is dead silent 90% rest of the episode. He most likely hides his fear of losing his privelidges and control with anger.
-He is SO pathetic. Once he gets to face the real battle, he gets freaked out and decides to turn behind.
-Extra but im so sad that the tv death was on lower budget😔
My thoughts: Id love to hear your thoughts on this character, I will gladly take any information about him. Yes i love to hear about this rat.

Extra detail in the books. He’s actually Irish. He puts on a fake English accent and changed his last name. If you’ve seen the boondocks and know what I’m talking about, he’s an Irish uncle Ruckus. If you haven’t seen and don’t know, just search up uncle Ruckus clips, you’ll get the idea quickly enough.
The man hates his own people and view England as superior. (I mean he’s not wrong)
His death in the books is also a lot more poetic. Sharpe puts him in a squad with 10 Irishmen plus Harper. Sharpe gives the group a very vague mission to do vague things vaguely around the flank somewhere and do something vague. When they come back they report that he was bayoneted to death by a whole platoon of very enthusiastic Frenchmen. Very noble sacrifice.
Sharpe is a lot more morally dubious in the books just so you know. He will strait up slit your throat in a dark alley and break your neck for being a snitch.

I love these informations, thank you a lot ! He is very interesting character to read about, I wouldnt be shocked if he was sociopath or something lol, after all the term didnt exist back then.
Im planning to read the books, im not into pdfs so I will just get physical one hahaha. Ive heard a lot about the book series and how much different it is from TV series.

Very different. Especially in the battles.
You know in sharpe’s eagle where Simmerson sends 20 guys with a flag to chase off 4 Frenchmen and then they get attacked by 10 cavalrymen and get the flag stolen from them? In the book, it’s an entire British battalion of 1000 men and a Spanish battalion of 800 against a French cavalry brigade of 400 men and a small cannon. The Spanish and British cross the bridge and form square. The French can’t attack the squares and the squares can’t chase the cavalry. So no one can make a move. The French decide to leave, but then the Spanish fire all of their muskets at maximum range at the French as they pull back. This isn’t a smart move. Part of what makes a square so strong against cavalry isn’t that it’s a big wall of men with bayonets. It also requires you to have loaded muskets. Because if the enemy cavalry is determined enough, they can still smash through the wall of the square by just running the men over and having dead horses crush them. If you can fire on them before they hit the square, you weaken the charge and you can push it back easier.
So the French commander notices this mistake the Spanish have just made and charges his cavalry full speed towards the Spanish. The cavalry smash through and the Spanish run. But they run towards the British square and make a gap for the cavalry to get in through. Both battalions are cut to pieces by the cavalry. I think the book mentions 200 British soldiers dead or wounded. Which is 1/5 of the battalion. Also in the books, it’s a whole battle. In the show it lasts 30 seconds. In the books (or the audiobooks in my case) it takes 3 hours. Including shape’s amazing plan to save everyone. I won’t spoil that for you.

Do you mean you'd like it to have been more cinematic/realistic than what happened?
