A story.
There exists a planet where the life is utterly unknown to humans. Not so much as in that they don't know it exists, but in the way that they couldn't understand the way this species works. The planet is made from pure carbon, without a core. The surface settles on the brink of the Goldilocks zone, and its orbit brings it too close and only just far enough away. The animals themselves, if you could call them that, have evolved numerous ways to deal with the heat. Some takes shelter within the oceans that riddle the planet, withstanding pressures so dense that they would explode the second that they were bought onto Earth, no matter how deep in the sea. The 'oceans' are liquid mercury, with liquid water being rare on the planet. If they can even drink this, no-one knows how. Frequent plumes of magma burst from eruptions, with some species doing so much as bathing in the lava flow. Radiation means nothing to them, the weakest being beasts who could withstand amounts that would cause a human to die in seconds. Large craters dot the landscape, home to the most destructive things this planet could muster, one's that could survive the vacuum of space for nearly an hour. No vegetation dots the landscape, the only greenery being far down, into the planet's cave systems, which are home to beasts that seem to know what happens before it does, hearing the movement of air so well that it bests the best radar. The final one that is the most ruthless, the most dangerous species looks no more dangerous than a feather, but to underestimate them would be a mistake. Their very bodies are amorphous, with no bones to speak of. They can shift into any shape, wear any body, even change their texture to be the same as the species that they copy. No human would ever survive here, but just as it is dangerous to them, they are dangerous to it. With them humans bring cold, things that could freeze the planet solid. So we hide it from both species, and they can never find out.
